While making my first purchase on GOG I used my Visa Debit Card which I use with out a problem on any other site that is also international. For some reason it would not accept my card. Is there a reason why? I would really like my card to be accepted because I do not have paypal.

Thanks!

It is the weekend, not likely to get resolution today.

Personally, I blame evil magicians, but if you tell me what game you were trying to buy, I might be able to help you out.
That happened to me today as well. Have you tried more than once?

The second time i attempted to make the payment, it went through - but without immediate confirmation, except from the one in my mailbox.

Edit:

I used a Master-card debit.

Make sure that you enter all information _exactly_ as it is stated on the card - including middle names that you might never use anywhere else, and accented characters. According to other users, GOG is touchy with regard to even slight differences in this data.

Also, check with your credit card company. GOG is located in located in Poland, but the "company address" is in Cyprus. Payment goes through Great Britain (I think), but still some credit card company might be wary about the involvement of Cyprus.
Don't kill me for asking a stupid question, but how many times did you try it? I only ask because I'm always being declined for entering the number in wrong or not paying attention and giving the wrong expiration date or once I accidentally misspelled my name.
I entered it about 5 times but I didn't add any of these (-) im not sure if I am supposed to. I was trying to buy the Legacy of kain bundle which I was able to do with my fathers paypal but I want to be able to use my own card on here.

Some banks/credit card companies do not like the fact that GOG runs its payments through Cyprus. Apparently Cyprus is a hot bed of corrupt financial activity, so these banks/card companies block payment to companies in Cyprus by default. You might have some success calling your bank and requesting that the block be specifically removed on your card.
So it had nothing to do with the fact that I didn't add (-)? Im with First Common Wealth so im not sure if they do that or not.

I never have to add the dashes and I use a Visa debit card for my purchases, as well. I've made two successful purchases today, so I don't think that's the cause of the problem.

Considering the OP is located in the US, it is almost certainly this unless credit card details are not being properly entered. Call the bank and tell them to approve it now and forevermore. That should solve the problem.

I am of course assuming sufficient funds/line of credit. ;-)

No, it isn't. I never add dashes either.

This seems to happen to a fair number of people although I hope it isn't too many since it not only inconveniences them but it could also have a negative impact on GOG. I know myself that when confronted with issues trying to make a payment online before I have actually said, "Fuck this" closed the browser and skipped the purchase. I would guess I'm not the only one that might do this.

This stuff makes me question the wisdom of doing business out of Cyprus as a tax dodge really. It would probably better to support the motherland so to speak in favor of better customer experience consistently.

I am not singling out GOG to pick on for this by the way really. Lots of companies around the world do exactly the same thing including plenty from my own country. However, when it starts impacting customers you have to weigh whether the benefits are worth the costs here.

That does make me think about any possible restrictions put on the card when it was taken out. Just yesterday someone had their card declined trying to pay me because the card was "for business use" and when B&B popped up the bill it immediately rejected it.

Possible, but I had an ae gold corporate card that i used everywhere; never declined.

How can they know if you're spending on a promo, entertainment, or what? IRS will know when/if audited, but you don't try and float your personal stuff as business expense anyway (unless you like problems.) :-)
Hey, I had the same thing happen to me with a Visa Paychek Plus Card (which I suppose is just like a regular Visa debit card with a fancy name). Anyway, I followed the instructions given by the website and called Customer Service in order to confirm my transaction. Unfortunately, the card company told me that because the foreign transaction went through Cyprus, they couldn't do it. I'm not sure how other people are using Visa to purchase here, but for me, it's clearly a problem with the card company. Too bad.

It shows "Inn" or "B&B" on the invoice and that comes up as a red flag for the card which as a pre-set list of terms that, when seen, call for the card to reject. It's a really stupid system because it ends up having nothing to do with what you are purchasing but rather the name of whom you are purchasing it from. None of my cards have that but a lot of these corporate folks do in order to prevent someone snagging the card and buying $10,000 worth of DVDs.

Mine didn't care, as long as I payed at the end of the month.

Spent many hours extracting my bs from business bs at tax season, but never had a problem with the issuer. I quit doing it to make my life easier (keep them separate now) so it might have changed, but I'd still float a Holiday Inn charge if the correct moment presented itself :-)
