kodeen: They committed the game to disc and it's not finished yet? That's an odd decision.
Yeah the game disc is more like a keepsake than anything else. They put in the 0.9.12 beta IIRC.
Open beta date confirmed: January 23 2013

Nice to know, thanks mate :)
Edit: read up some more there end game seems interesting also with map system that you can make maps with different mods pretty cool.

I found out about this game recently and watched a few reviews.
I gotta say It's character development, misc systems, game modes(how hardcore death sends you to softcore) is really really golden. But I have two major concerns.
1) the above is only half of the story, the other half the gameplay/combat is that fun? If fighting vs your environment is actually fun and doesn't feel like chore than this will truly be my dream online game.
2) How will/can a small indie team deal is hacks, bots, dupes?

Btw will there be character wipes when open beta starts? Will open beta character be wiped at official launch? Edit: seems like they will wipe everything when open beta starts but no wipes afterwards even at launch.

and have they mentioned how much shop points cost after launch not talking about preorder.

Regarding the questions asked:
1) For me, it's fun because it's very fast-paced, but I guess it also depends on what class you use. Up till a few months ago, I've only been using a ranged-necromancer Witch, but I've heard melee players complain that it's hard to choose a specific enemy to hit when you're swarmed by hordes of mobs. Killing stuff is very satisfying though.

2) Chris Wilson, the lead developer, used to work on software security. That's probably given him and Grinding Gear Games some foundation in dealing with hacks and cheats. Still, it's hard to ensure an unbroken guarantee when it comes to security in an always-online game.

Yea I been studying the game since my last post and it's even more complex than I originally thought. For each systems in the game you have to do like a separate study. As for the game play it is exiting also due to it's high damage to hp ratio.
Very fun game. I really wish it had an offline option because I would have gladly purchased it. I did pay 10 bucks for closed beta access though, and I played it quite a bit throughout the closed beta, so I probably won't return to the game until final release.

I think the open beta is the official release since they won't do wipe anymore after that.
Last chance to get a Kiwi, they're gone forever in 15-ish hours (or so): https://www.pathofexile.com/purchase

You don't have to feel bad for your indulgence, over 150 people have purchased Diamond pack.
