Apple denied the release of Papers Please in their APP Store because of the bodyscanner. They see it as "pornography".
So now there is a cut version in their store.

Why was there nudity in the game to begin with? And was is it ridiculous that publishers don't want pornographic content in their games? Apple has done a lot of stupid things, but this doesn't seem to be one of them.
Doesn't the game have an option to remove nudity?

You can switch to partly nude (with bra and panty).
But that is not how a body scanner works in reality.

I don't want to offend anyone but I find it ridiculous because they don't have problems with gore and slaughtering people in games but when it comes to nudity or partly nudity it's a nogo. The pictures you can see look like when youre undressing a Barbie. So when a child undresses a Barbie to put on a new dress it's also pornography? I think I have to sue them for millions.

Nudity ≠ pornography.

It's silly that the 8-bit body scans of people in completely neutral poses from Papers, Please is considered "too offensive" while billboards and magazines publicly display celebrities in much more provocative poses but are considered OK since they just barely cover female nipples and genitalia of both sexes. That Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" music video is 10x more pornographic than the body scans from Papers, Please... yet it would probably be allowed as a standalone app in the US Apple App Store.

I spent the first 22 years of my life in the USA, and it took me many years living outside the country for me to realize that the USA really does have some strange attitudes and hangups with respect to the human body as compared to the rest of the world.

It does but that doesn't change the fact that the nudity is in there. Well, too bad when you're using a device that's forcing you tu use a single app store...
How is anyone really surprised? I love this country but prostitution is illegal meanwhile joining the army is encouraged.
Maybe "pornography" is just a secret codeword for "commie propaganda". ;)

This news was already a couple days out of date when it got posted in the OP. Even the article in the OP has an update; although not as detailed is this one:

Apple reverses decision, allows unedited Papers, Please on iPad

I just saw that after checking out the article, and I'm glad it is the case. Still, for it to even be a potential issue which caused Lucas Pope concern about long delays in getting it approved speaks volumes about overly sensitive the US is about nudity.

It brings to mind that episode of the Simpsons where the town of Springfield wanted to censor Michelangelo's David sculpture.
Redonkulous.
16 bit nudity is porn now. Jesus Christ.
Holy crap! I pull Papers Please out of my backlog immediately! Here comes daddy! [...is what Apple reviewers must be thinking in their twisted repressed subconscious]
So digital nudity of 100% fictional characters @ 100% super low resolution is condidered real.
Why isn't digital murder (or any other form of violence) even @ super high resolution looking close to real life, be considered real?

I would say nudity is closer to reality then violence, as we all are born naked... except Chuck Norris.

(Hitler simulators have us committing genocide on near daily basis ;P)

I have to agree that nudity will at times get more criticism over violence. Violence needs to be addressed too, I'm looking at the news programs especially (They love to mention nudity over violence most of the time).

There are times I will not buy a movie or game because the violence makes me sick to my stomach. Torture, and well some other things get over the top and I can't handle it; I get upset. It really depends on the content.

I remember there was a really good episode of South Park where the parents in the town got angry about the nudity of one of the characters over the violence that was committed in the episode.
