So if you always wanted to drive a tank, but couldn’t stomach the idea of sitting with a couple of other men in the tank’s steamy, tight and uncomfortable confines, it's a game for you. Just to remind you, Panzer Elite is a realistic tank simulator with a ton of features. The game allows players to command a platoon of US or German tanks as they relive some of the most intense tank battles of World War II.

I knew it was a Tank focused game, but not an actual "Tank Sim". How complex sim wise is it? Probably not directly on my 'want list' right now, but the complexity of some of the aircraft sims is too much for me and I quite like the actual genre.

As it so happens, I'm something of a "WW2-nut". No, I don't have old WW2 weapons and hand grenades lying about, but I'm interested in the history and events of that period. And such I've amassed quite a collection of books, documentaries, movies, and even games with WW2 themes.
So maybe, maybe :).
Can anybody attest as to what degree this game is historically accurate? For example, degree of faithful recreation of the actual tanks that were used during WW2, the tank battles themselves, etc. etc.

I've bought the game a while back but not played it yet. Dunno why yet - most likely too many other games keeping me occupied.
But as far as realism goes, from what I've read and heard I guess this is the tanks version of Il Sturmovik in realism of vehicles and style of gameplay.

The game's pretty complex in it's engine. When you try to shoot at a target factors like angle, speed, shell velocity, warhead type, crew experience (if you're not the gunner) and the like are taken into account.
Also throughout the campaign you have to watch out not to run out of ammunition and fuel. It's up to you as a platoon commander what tanks will your subordinates will ride into battle. Those iron steeds are also modable to some extent (skirt armour, AA machine-gun, etc.). As for subordinates... It's also up to the player who does what. When someone is wounded you have to appoint a replacement. Not to mention awarding crews with medals. :)
You can participate in campaigns in North Africa and Western Europe. Also you can build your own tank engagements. And here the fun starts because there are some fabulous mods that can tune up the realism, add new tanks and support vehicles or even change the battle conditions (I still remember one battle where my Maus platoon fenced off - to some degree - swarms of T-34/76... at night... in a blizzard). Of course mods tested by us are available to download as well.
Some of you might be concerned with complexity of controls. Well... there are few things to memorize but everything should be clear after few engagements. :)

The game catalog page needs a note added to indicate that the game has a multiplayer mode for up to 10 players... I had to go look up an outside review to find that out.
