So apparently just yesterday Painkiller Hell and Damnation came out

It's supposed to be a remake of the first game + expansion in the Unreal 3 Engine, It's already out on Steam with a console version coming later in 2013

After watching the trailers and gameplay footage I have to say...this looks really cool

It looks like a very faithful and good remake of the Original game, it even goes as far as to say in it's trailer that it's an "Oldschool skillbased FPS not for everyone" sort of like Serious Sam 3

So then, Nordic Games, when can we expect to see this game here?
It's missing almost half the levels of Painkiller Black though.

Edit: more than half

And, yes, you did read that right: The game has 14 levels (one of which is a bonus level that currently has a game-breaking bug in it). Compared to the original’s 24 levels -- not to mention the extra 10 from the Battle out of Hell expansion which Painkiller HD borrows from

Well that's...disappointing.
I saw that on D/toid yesterday and was delighted until I actually read the review. I still have the originals so it's no big deal, but I thought I would be able to get a nice shiney HD version as well :(
I am not sure why this warranted a HD upgrade. The original scales nicely and the engine is spiffing fast (was even on my old laptop, faster then anything with a Unreal engine... ). There never was anything wrong or old with the graphics in my opinion.
Painkiller came out in '04 and at max settings/resolution looks pretty good even today. I don't understand why studios are becoming so remake-happy but I guess it's just because they sell. Personally, I don't think it's really necessary.

Well think about it. It costs less to remake a game than make a game. You can also charge for a remake, the same amount you can charge for a new game. It is also less risky to make a remake of a good game because you already know people see it as a good game. You already know the remake will sell. I read somewhere some time ago, that making a new game is so expensive sometimes that it is not a very profitable thing to do unless you sell 1000000000000000000000 copies.

Yeah, that is pretty dissapointing

though I'm assuming that additional levels and content will get added later on as DLC
If anyone is interested this game will be added to this months Polish gaming magazine CD Action so its price is less than 5$ in Poland. Thats looks like more than fair price for the product.
I have painkiller complete in gg and it's boring. I don't hate it but I dont love it either.
