WARNING: Grumpy Rant follows

$25 to get a copy of the game included with your backers reward. Seems like the price tag will be about that or more then. Im sorry but im really starting to get annoyed at all these remakes that update graphics and slap pretty high price tags on the games that are mostly relatively older games.

Now if this was going to be like $10-$15 I could get behind that but to my mind they are updating the graphics and not much else. I dont see the value for money over the version that we have here. And teasing with the stretch goal about an Outcast 2 is just a shitty thing IMO. Might as well have just been blunt about it and said give us 1.7mil (think that was the goal) and we will think about it.

Thats my grumpy rant over. I shall not bother coming back in here as ill just get more grumpy probably.

Nirth: No, this is Outcast 1, with graphic assets rebuilt from scratch in high definition and running on modern platforms using modern technologies. However, if the Kizaar stretch goal is obtained, one can say this is a first glimpse at Outcast 2 starting there.
I'm under the impression that the guys really don't know the difference between a remake and a reboot. :P
Not to be 'that guy', but I just finished reading through the whole "Meet the Team" section and it's a bit frightening that so many of these people *proudly* worked on that absolute piece of crap that is Fighter Within... if, by any remote chance, I had worked on that game, I wouldn't blatantly say so in a Kickstarter to remake a classic game for modern times. It makes me automatically doubt their abilities when it comes to developing games these days.

[EDIT] And, keeping with what reaver894 said, $25/€20 is *not* the price of an indie game. We could argue that it's not expensive, as well, and what makes a digital game expensive or cheap, and whatnot, and compare prices with people who sold their Kickstarted games for more than $25, but Sauer specifically claimed, in the video, that they're trying to sell a AAA studio game at an indie game price. An HD remake of a 1999 game for $25 is *not* indie price. I can buy Teslagrad, Steamworld Dig and Tiny & Big here on GOG for $10. I can get Jazzpunk for $15. Granted, Broken Age and Broken Sword 5 both cost $25, but Kickstarter backers got them for way less -- the way it should be, since you're helping fund it all. And do bear in mind neither Broken Age nor Broken Sword 5 are just old games with shinier graphics, which is the case with Outcast HD.

I dont think its unreasonable.

This is not a typical HD remake, they'll have to basically recreate the whole game, which is huge. On top of the other stuff (eg. a new region).
From what ive read though, bulk of it *does* sound like a HD reskin?

Punished_Snake: Reboot HD?

Is this a reboot or a HD new edition?

Nirth: They don't seem to add any content other than a major graphical overhaul. Some stretch goal is about changing animations and fixing lip sync and adding some side quest that never made it to the original release.
Thanks. Just saw that they can add a new island if they reach a specific goal, but it's a remake. Good, I never played the original, by the way.

You can't really call it a "reskin" when they are basically recreating the entire game in a new engine. Either way I'm happy with it this way, because as far as I can see this is a new unproven team, we don't know if they have the talents and capability to create a new Outcast game and do it any justice. As long as they stick to the design of the original to the letter, they can't really screw it up because Outcast was a pretty much perfect action-adventure game, better even than the original Tomb Raider. If they can do a decent remake, then in my view they can pitch an Outcast 2 or whatever to fans having proved they can do it.

I have suggested in the Kickstarter comments in fact that they should reuse the voice-acting and soundtrack files from the original Outcast, because those were pretty much perfect and there's no way you'd top the symphony orchestra ost or the professional voice work of the original.
wow, glad to hear this, and i hope it meets its kickstarter goal!
I't back Outcast 2, but the remake is unnecessary. The original could only be run in a very low resolution, but it still offered breathtaking vistas and huge levels packed with objects and NPCs. The remake would also be void of that nostalgia factor.
This project is also worth following:

Tried playing the original last year. Couldn't really get into it. I wasn't very good at fighting or keeping track of what I was supposed to be doing or where I was supposed to go.

I will give it another shot some time.

$600k seems like a lot of money to ask for at this stage of the kickstarter cycle (on its way down), notwithstanding so many great games released

I think the people who worked on Fighter Within were artists and musos? I've never played the game but wasn't the problem that it was a bad Kinect game (ie, not so much a problem with the art and music)?
They've updated the Kickstarter page with a screenshot of their prototype, comparing it to the original game.
Looks good
I guess I'll keep my eye on this. Hopefully they make the stretch goal, though wonder how it would work for keeping the same voices.
