First off, congratulations to GOG for signing Square-Enix and releasing Deus Ex(which I bought here Day one) and Hitman.

I was wondering if you are considering going recruiting other Japanese developers like Falcom(mainly famous for the Ys series) and Capcom both of which have some PC releases. Unfortunately Falcom's games would require translation but there are several PC titles already translated(at least into English) in Capcom's catalog.

Capcom will be hard to get because they r not fans of PC gaming ;)
You can safely assume that GOG would sign Grandma Interactive if GI had the rights to some classic PC IPs. So don't worry about that.

What you should be worried about is the fact that apart from Squee (and to a lesser extent capcom) Japanese publishers don't give a toss about the PC. It's not a gaming platform over there.

They have done some good PC ports of late. Okay so the games themselves may not all be classics, but the ports have been solid as far as I know.

GoG didn't sign a Japanese developer. they essentially signed Eidos, which happens to be owned by Square Enix.

i'm willing to bet that most if not all the upcoming Square Enix titles will actually be Eidos titles, and all European and American productions.

This. My gut feeling tells me that the agreement is not actually with Square Enix, but with Square Enix Europe, which is to all extents and purposes an independent company from Square Enix Japan. They're operating in pretty much the same manner as they did when they were Eidos.

Actually Konami got a big catalogue of PC games.... and some of them are really classics - MGS,Sillent Hill... but still I don't believe they will join GoG soon... I think we will have LucasArts or Zenimax first...

I haven't played any of their PC ports, but from what I gather they're pretty weak and generally just quick cash-ins. So yeah, I don't think they're really all that interested in the PC or even their old games for that matter. They've only released the newer games on Steam for instance.

Zenimax might well be heading to GOG now that Interplay are on the verge of losing the right to sell the earlier Fallout games. Lucasarts I don't know about. Their efforts to release old games have been somewhat lacklustre at best.

Yep japanese dev/publishers don't like us :D But as you look good most of the newer games look like ports too ... so I don't mind having MGS in my collection ;)

About Zenimax I'm hopeful for them too... LucasArts will come on GoG if they see a big profit...

And actually we have a game from a company behind Zenimax allready here - ArxFatalis(Arkane Studios).

They're not even fussed about Steam though. In fact it doesn't strike me that they're all that interested in games publishing full stop.

That doesn't really mean anything more than the fact that they could be another voice in favour of getting Zenimax on GOG. Both them and id (Steam) seem to publish their games independently of Zenimax.

And actually that means.. that Bethesda can publish without Zenimax...

Bethesda created Zenimax, so I doubt they would given that it would be defeating the entire point of Zenimax. So no, they wouldn't. In id's case I think that it means their inclusion here will only take longer.
Sega might be a possibility.

I'd sure love to see Condemned or Alpha Protocol around here. >_>
Oh well,
I figured I wouldn't have a inexpensive DRM free digital copy of Ys Eternal complete any time soon anyway. Zenimax would be a welcome addition though.
So actually of the big ones we are missing:
Microsoft
Konami
LucasArts
Zenimax
Blizzard
SEGA

If I'm missing someone...

Btw who owns the licenses for Midway games(Unreal III,Rise & Fall,BlackSite: Area 51 etc.)

THQ and Take 2.

And Blizzard is part of Activision, who is already with GOG.

(is something wrong with the quoting function? I seem to be getting the wrong posts quoted)
