Hey there,
Just throwing this out there before someone else does. I missed out on starting a Webcomic post so I have to be in quick.
Who here watches Zero Punctuation? Those who don't know what it is well Zero Punctuation is a (mostly) game video review series done by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. The reviews tend to be filled with jokes, innuendo and a lot of accurate observational humour. However a lot of it can be quite crude and just plain wrong. But mostly is very entertaining. There is a lot of swearing though. They also have a simple cartoon animation which fits in perfectly.
I don't use them as a review to base my "to buy or not to buy" list on as Yahtzee mostly hates all games :p

ah yes dude, and for quite a while now....
Yahtzee rarely fails to make me laugh with his fast talking randomness :) and his opinions are expertly justified, which is a nice thing to have with a game reviewer.
Mad, offensive, informative and down right bloody brilliant! if i ever see him, ill get him a pint!
Same here. Best 5-minute-break on the net if you ask me :)
He's a good man. Makes me laugh even while he's beating the shit out of a game I loved.
Yeah, Zero Punctuation is one of the weekly videos on the net that I never miss. It's amazing, I can have no interest whatsoever about the game Yahtzee is reviewing and yet still be entertained by the review.
actually, thinking of it, todays wednesday so there should be anew one out later on :D
Aye, his reviews are usually a bit off but his humour is spot on.

I tend to take his opinion to heart, as most games made nowadays:
SUCK!
Plain and simple. There is little soul and experimentation left in them, and while I can fondly remember experimental titles like Sacrifice or Giants most games made nowadays even fail to make an impression most of the time.
Same old, same generic, reused stuff.

-Get the PR and Manager types away for a long vacation.
-Get a good WRITER!
-Let the coders think of some cool GAME IDEA.
-Put together a portfolio, and only unleash the suits when it's time to code.
The Angry Video Game Nerd is better.

EDIT:
I used to be a huge fan of Zero Punctuation, but after he did a review of spore and of too human, I just sort of feel he's out of touch. These games have been reviewed a million times over and there is no point in reviewing them again! Also I used to really enjoy that he'd stick some new music in his videos every time, now with this theme music.. I'm extremely disappointed, not to mention is really isn't the most attractive guitar riff to my ear..

The music change was a legal thing (he wasn't getting permission to use the songs he had before), but I don't see your point on what he has recently chosen to review. He's pretty much always reviewed popular games, often long after everyone else has.

The Spore and the Too Human reviews were a little recent. I felt like there were other popular games he could have reviewed other than those ones that had already been done to death. There was a huge Frenzy for both games, saying how much they stank.
I always find the reviews funny. Actually if it wasn't for him I would not have played painkiller which is awesome.

I actually got a copy of painkiller from a second hand store (Ala goodwill.. )before his review came out, because I had seen ads for it on steam, and it had been recommended to me by friends (it was lucky I found it there), and I played through the first couple of levels, and it is a solid game for what it is, but it was too repetitive for me. I couldn't stand the hoards of enemies.. I was like "alright, can I move on now, please?" but again, that was my own hangup, the game is solid for what it presents.

As he often mentions, he is based in Australia and therefore is somewhat more limited in what he can review compared to other parts of the world. Things can take a long time to get released there.

Yahtzee seems to like, or at least not hate so much, the games that I like. His Portal review was, for him, fairly favourable. As were the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty 4 reviews. All of these games were pretty good.
Also, I have to defend modern games a little. While I agree that MOST modern games are unimaginative and soulless, there are some absolute jems which have come out recently. World of Goo just came out and let me tell you, it's fantastic. It has style, soul and imagination. Portal is another great example of a modern game bringing something new that had never been done.
Both of these games have something in common. Namely, they were initailly written by small dev teams with the aim of making a fun game. Not sponsored by big publishers only looking to make money. I say "initially" because at some point, Valve took on Portal but I think by that point, it was too late for it to be ruined.
