No :) That's the beauty of RPG - you can influence the story and make it your own. I remember how much I sucked when I was playing Planescape: Torment for the first time (I did nothing to improve my fighting skills... and then Curst Prison and Baator came). Still, I finished that playthrough and I'm happy for it to this day.
I say: play it, look around, see what you would do differently if given another chance and play it again.
It's not a game for one playthrough. Just to convince you - you have a gender-specific party member and a Force side specific party member.
And if you really want to see what happens when you piss Atton off, you can use KotOR Savegame Editor v.333 and modify your influence :) If you can't find it, I should have it somewhere on my HDD.

I don't suppose you want to tell me what happens with the Disciple should I cozy up to him? The rest of it I don't mind, in fact I want to, find out on my own, but something about that character just totally gets on my nerves and I don't want to kiss his ass only to find out it leads to just something minor.

Atton and Disciple argue. Then, near the end, you have a player-controlled part where you, as Disciple, fight against Atton. You can just stand there and let Atton kill the golden boy :) The game continues normally, no matter what's the outcome of that fight.

Oh, that's all. Glad I didn't start over, thanks. I actually like having Atton as a friend so even if I play over I'd keep it that way.

Male characters have their own romance battle near the end... And the choice is much harder for them, so you want to have high influecne with male-specific party member before Visas joins :)

I screwed up. :P I was playing around with different character builds while I was talking with you and failed to realize when you "start" it erases all the saves from your previous game. :D Just as well, I was getting sick of the face I was using and now I can make friends with Atton without making him a Jedi and thus keeping him a 100% gunner.

I'm sure there is a button to switch between characters.

Why can't you keep him with guns as a jedi? He doesn't magically forget how to use them.

That's what I'm doing. The only problem is that if you don't monitor his aggression (ranged, attack, etc) he keeps ditching the guns in favor of melee, so you need to keep him somewhat defensive because he doesn't have a lightsaber and even if he did he doesn't have any training with it and yet he keeps charging into battle with it. It's actually pretty funny.

Don't equip him with melee weapons then and set up his automatic standards through the menu, it should be enough to keep him from charging so long as he has a line of sight (I will also say, both games were pretty glitchy in their raw forms, more so if you tried to play the xbox versions through a 360)

I hope no one minds me inadvertently turning this into the "Help TinyE Play KOTOR 2" thread. :D It wouldn't make me feel so bad if GOG carried the game. There are other forums for this game I guess I could turn to.

I don't think anyone minds that much. I've played through both games quite a bit, but rarely do I play enough to get to the end. I usually at least hit max level, and while I do wish GOG carried KOTOR, Jade Empire is a good start.
