I'm actually glad you mentioned that. As the OP that was part of my point, that noble Jedi, while they may lose the occasional limb, don't get all their skin burned off and stuff like that.

Considering the posibilities of Bacta-Tanks and cosmetical Surgery (or simple Makeup) brings me to a very simple conclusion:

Sith want to look like that.
It probably should inspire fear in their enemies,
the scars probably show battle prowess among their peers.

All Sith want to be ugly and considering they are in favour of slavery/servitude they get (cheap) sex whenever they want, so that's not really a problem at all.

So to put it bluntly it all boils down to
personal preference

I mean the fact that his face grows darker in the dark side. As in, Maul is the same species, and would no doubt do the same thing (As odd is that is) and the rest is just so much face paint.

Always thought all those are Sith tatoos he makes as he turns to the Dark Side...
Another point to the discussion: Krayt's One Sith were pretty normal looking apart from their tatoos (no Dark Side disfigurments).

The only problem is I'm a 'help junkie' and all the guides are written for the original version and I keep finding shit happening that isn't "supposed" to and getting totally unexpected quest options. The thief quest on Dantooine ends totally differently and I kept running around trying to solve it the old way when if fact I had to go south instead of north and figure it out the new way.

Depending on how you act you can bounce the character back and forth between light and dark, and the change is always gradual. It's not like you'll turn away and he suddenly has war paint on. Also, a big distinction is made that the true Sith were a species instead of an ideology (Revealed in the second KOTOR game by Kreia) so it's not unthinkable that true sith were not dark-side light-side inclined, and even if they were the changes only really occur to force sensitive characters.

If you don't know something, feel free to ask me :) As said, I played TSL numerous times with and without restored contetn and I know it pretty well.
But I think that's the most alerted quest in the game - all the rest plays pretty normal, only with some additions from time to time, plus lots of new party-related content, plus lots of small enjoyable touches, plus some new or repaired quests, plus totally repaired ending :).
Actually origins of the Sith were revealed much earlier in Tales of the Jedi comic books :) I don't want to spoil too much, but the Sith were a pretty primitive species of warriors with natural Force sensitivity that came in contact with outcasts from the Jedi Order who taugh them how to use their potential. Korriban is a graveyard of those Sith.

I might and I have to say I'm actually enjoying in more that #1 so far, of course I'm only halfway through. So far the party characters are WAY better save for the "Disciple" which I've read you can't lose no matter how hard you try. I actually dig using droids in this one, they are better rounded out and more fun to use. Also it just looks better if only slightly; the storms and insects in Onderan are way more than anything KOTOR1 had. Little touches like that make it much more fun to just explore and look around.

Play as a male and you'll get a much better and more interesting character instead of Disciple :) And if you really hate him, try to have much higher influence over him than over Atton. This way you'll have a nice surprise near the end. Just remember, you don't have to win every fight :)

I'm glad you said something; I just picked him up and I was planning on ignoring him but I won't now. Is it too late if I've already made Atton a Jedi? I actually only did it to see if I could and fact is I try to avoid giving him any powers and only use him as a gunner with just duel pistols and heavy armor. My chosen team is Visas and Mira who I have so decked out with duel pistol and speed options she puts Doc Holliday to shame. :D

You need to loose influence with Atton (which is near impossible)... When you see him and Disciple argue (twice, if I remember), you know you got it :) Actually you can train your members if you have high enough influence or low enough influence (only with low influence you'll train the opposite of your side of the force - so Jedi + low influence = Dark Jedi trainee).
Invest in HK-47 - at one point you'll need him as powerful as he can get.

Should I start over?

To me it's a manifestation of their inner being - what being a Sith and accepting that power leads to and does to you.

It comes through most clearly when Anakin gets put together in his Vader Suit after having his arm and legs chopped off by Obiwan and having Padme die in childbirth in dispair, and he's helped destroy the Jedi. Of all he cared about he's only left with this damaged robotic core of his self.

It's a pretty effective literary device imho.
