And here, typical Xbox 360 vs. PS3 vs. Wii console discussion starts!
Errr... Yeah, I'm considering buying a console and since this is the ONLY forum, on which discussion won't fall to 'lol Xbox sux rofl' I know about (don't even think about it, Weclock :D ), so I ask, in your personal opinion, which one is the best, and most worth the money? I don't really know about Wii, now I'm considering Xbox or PS3 AND I do incline to PS3 more because of Final Fantasy series... But Xbox seems to have some great exclusive titles as well...
Oh, I didn't write the question yet... Which one would you recommend?
Final Fantasy will launch on both consoles at around the same time.
They're both good consoles; I picked up a 360 arcade pack simply because it was far cheaper than the PS3 and I've been quite happy with it. PS3 does have Wipeout HD though which looks amazing.
At the risk of being called a n00b or a casual gamer: X360, Arcade Bundle.
Because it actually behaves like a console. You put games in it and you play those games, and that is all. That's what consoles are for.
The PS3 has you juggling mandatory installations on a tiny hard drive (hello 2002!), and while it's true that adding a hard drive to an X360 opens up many great new features, most of those features are things that we're already doing on our PCs anyway.
So yeah, the Arcade Bundle. For some reason it's shunned by most gamers, but in my books it's the best choice for people actually interested in owning a games console rather than a 'media centre.'
Xbox 360 is the killer console of its generation, together with Wii with his Wi-Fi controller. PS3 is too much expensive, offering nothing that the Microsoft console wouldn't give you for a fraction of the cost.
Well, in effect PS3 would have some killer applications to look at (God of War, Metal Gear Solid 4), but they are a very poor choice in regard of what Xbox has to offer.
In an ideal world I would buy all the three home consoles, but if I had choose I would take Xbox for sure....

You have to look at what games that interest you, like e.g. a particular genre. Then compare the three consoles libraries of your favorite genre and wupti you'll have the answer to which one you should buy.

I love DLC. I love XBLA games.
Poker Smash? Hell yes.
Jade Empire (freakin' hate discs)? Hell yeah.

QFT. This is exactly the reason why I got an Xbox as opposed to the PS3. For me, the PS3 only has God of War 3.
I say it depends on what you like. If you're a tech-junkie, PS3 with it's built in Blu-ray is not a bad deal at all. If you're more of a classic gamer -- and I'm going to guess you are since you're a member here -- then the sheer number of excellent games on Xbox 360 definitely outweighs those on the PS3. It's also much cheaper, especially if you go with the Arcade Bundle.
If the two still seem equal to you, I'd say go with whichever one has the more comfortable controller to you. I, personally, can't get used to the PS3 controller, and the Xbox 360 controller is the most comfortable one I've ever held.

important things of note,
1. microsoft is offering either a free memory card or a $20 20gb refurbished HDD for arcade owners
2. the D-pad on the xbox 360 has less than 32 directions.. it's very sad and very annoying.
Final Fantasy really IS on Xbox! I just had to verify that... Now, don't anyone know if Heavy Rain is PS3 exclusive? Because that's another game I HAVE to play...
Hmmm, it really seems it's PS3 only...
They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I own a Wii and a 360, and my favourite timewaster is... my DS.
I cannot tell you what to buy. Look through the three systems' libraries, pick out games yu might like, spend some time watching youtube vids and playing the respective games and systems at shops or leech off playtime from rich/stupid friends.
Me? I'm a Wii guy.
The system has horrible design issues (being forced to clean the fridge for more than 4 months now is somewhat degrading), it's ridiculously underpowered (lol 3MB shared render+Z buffer and texture cache), Nintendo would gleefully strangle their customers in their own intestines if it made them money, but despite all that there's a certain kaind of experience to be had that no other hardware can provide. It's the go-to console for social gaming, aka local multiplayer. 3rd party support on Wii is still atrocious, so if you're the carefree "let's just buy it without reading reviews" type you'll be in for a world of hurt. 3rd party games on Wii are a hit-and-miss affair. Western devs in particular seem outright hostile to this little box, with very few exceptions.
That being said, there are lots of gems in that pool of feces. Boom Blox and de Blob are simply awesome, for example, and they're from western devs. The Wiimote pointer + Nunchuck combo is the closest thing to keyboard & mouse controls you'll get this gen, aside from an actual Kb&M setup. So awesome when a dev nails it. So frustrating when they don't.
If I really have to describe it in last-gen terms: It's a PS2, with a vastly smaller game library. While this is slowly changing, and while asian and smaller western devs seem to slowly warm up to it, the fact remains that many devs are consciously avoiding it.
Again, make no mistake: Nintendo wants your money. All of it. If they can get away with robbing you blind they will, and they won't even bother to be diplomatic about it. It's kinda like Apple, in a certain way. Sony and MS try to go after your wallet in a much more subtle way.
The HD consoles... well. I'm kinda nonplussed about them. They're good fun and all that, I bought a 360 for rez HD and enjoy it immensely, but...
If you want graphics, get a good PC. Many games n HD consoles are rendered in sub HD resolutions internally, then scaled up. Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, CoD 4, nearly all the big names are "fake HD", sometimes even at an unsteady 30fps. This is simply unacceptable for any upstanding graphics whore.
PS3 seem to have moderate problems with their Bluray lasers, and 360 suffer from hellishly loud drives and (on comparatively rare occasions nowadays) the dreaded RROD. They've gotten much better, but to be quite honest I expect a bit more from a 250+€ piece of equipment.
Don't let me get you down though, if you like 3D graphics those systems are awesome. The 360 with its recent price drop offers considerable bang for your buck, and the PS3 is probably the most future proof discrete Bluray player on this planet. Both have a solid, if not spectacular (sorry, injoke) game library, mainly from western devs, and a surprising amount of multiplatform titles. They also offer a rich digital download shopping experience.
Seeing as this is a PC centric site tough I cannot seriously recommend either of them. A PC, while without a doubt more expensive if you don't already have a sort-of-new one, will almost always beat the everloving daylights out of the console games in terms of achievable graphics. Unless you really need to play the handful of console exclusive titles you're much better off with investing in some upgrades.
If you're going by sales, I'd say buy Nintendo. Wii has sold about on par with its competition taken together, and it doesn't look like it's gonna slow down any time soon. It's a freaking monster, and if it'll follow the DS model the games will come sooner or later. Keyword "if". You decide.
Now get out there and try the systems out. Nothing I could ever type on this board would give you the same kind of feedback. Look at the games. Look at the controllers. Ask your friends what they own.

Heavy Rain is definately a PS3 exclusive.
As for what console you should get...personally, I have all three, but the PS3 has been my favorite. It's much more reliable (I've sent my 360 in five or six times for repairs), has the best exclusives (Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Uncharted, and so on), and something about the way it is just feels right over my other consoles. You also get free multiplayer (mostly without pre-pubescent 13-year-old kids shouting curse words), a decent d-pad, and some great DLC games (Warhawk, WipEout HD, and so forth). I have a considerable library in both my 360 and PS3 department, but the Wii isn't that bad, either.
I have a Wii and DS for consoles, but have played a decent amount of 360 games and am considering purchasing one in the future. Even then, the Wii is my favorite. Yeah, there aren't many 3rd party games worth buying, but the system is still good fun. It is great for when there are a number of people over, and some of the single player games are quite good as well.
I won both a 360 and a Wii.
I use my 360 to play titles my PC can't run, to play the Prince of Persia games (I prefer them on console) and to play SFII:HF.
I use my Wii every once in a while, the 3-point shootout in NBA Live 08 is a ton of fun, and it's actually a pretty good simulation of jump shooting. The fact that Wii Sports is probably the best title for this console says a lot though.
I think you're best bet in terms of versatility and value is the 360. It has some great exclusive titles, most of the big games, is relatively inexpensive and XBL is a great service. Also, the price has come down a lot making it quite affordable.
Partly because I don't agree with Microsoft's business practices I own a PS3 and a Wii although, frankly, the Wii has gone unplayed since I got the PS3.
I was one of the, seemingly very, few who never bought a PS2, so the lack of emulation in newer PS3 models never bothered me, but I did own a PSone back in the day, so I've been having a huge amount of fun playing all the old games (even going so far as buying used games that I never got around to playing in the 90s).
Other reasons I prefer the PS3 include the free multiplayer (subscription fees just to play multiplayer never rubbed with me, as I came to consoles as a PC gamer), great DVD upscaling and a few of the exclusives (I thoroughly enjoyed Resistance: FoM and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue).
It all comes down to personal preferences eventually, but if you want features the PS3 is jammed full of cool things, and they're adding more all the time via firmware updates. Certainly if you watch a lot of movies or TV shows (we won't ask how you get the files) the PS3 is the only way to go simply because of the huge number of formats it supports.
