But NO ONE expects the Spanish Inquisition.

predcon: No, the sad thing is your music used to be really good. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, etc.
... Pink Floyd.

Nafe: We've still got some decent bands
You bet. More than decent I'd say : Morcheeba, Gorillaz, Muse, Iron Maiden, Paradise Lost and so many more.

I think the problem is not that UK doesn't have good bands/artists but that radio and music channels keep playing chart shite for masses. And by masses I mean pre-teens and chavs who then keep playing it on the f-ing bus on their shitty phones...

They always did though, so that hasn't changed.
See, it's probably just because I came over to UK 5 years ago and shock of how big chart music is here was... tremendous. That also might be that before getting my ass on the plane I avoided charts at all cost... It doesn't really justify in my eyes how "in your face" that shit is. Can understand radio playing that music - freedom of choice, listen to whatever the hell you want, but I'm still yet to find or get told frequency of great metal/rock radio, hear some rock played on the phones while traversing town on the bus, etc...

I just get depressed every time I hear "new single from fantastic <put in x-factor type show winners that will hopefully get hit by a bus>". All hope is kind of saved by local bands though.
Some more great UK bands:

Iron Maiden, Dragonheart, DragonForce, Power Quest, Judas Priest, Tokyo Blade, Cradle of Filth, Haken, Desolation, Sandstone, Skyclad, SikTh, Bruce Dickinson, Lost in Thought, Threshold, Alestorm, Aeon Zen, To-mera, Excalibur, Blaze, Shadowkeep, Crimson Tears, Battleheart, Biomechanical, Black Sabbath, Pythia, Xerath, Saxon, Onslaught, Bullet for My Valentine, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Waylander, Saracen, Linear Sphere, Bal-Sagoth, TesseracT, Sylosis, Carcass, Xentrix, Forefather, Tipton, Entwistle & Powell, Angel Witch, Praying Mantis, Enochian Theory, Heaven & Hell, Ozzy Osbourne, Savage Messiah, The Blood Divine, Balance of Power, Cloven Hoof.

And I'll throw in a bonus of Rainbow and Anathema too. \m/
Didnt i make a topic about JJ 6 months ago....

orcishgamer: In return we promise to strictly curtail both Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus.

In addition we promise to punch Will Smith in the balls every time a Willow Smith song gets played.
Call off Gaga and we can begin the negotiations. While we are under attack there can be no ceassfire.

orcishgamer: Don't forget UB40
And XTC, Kate Bush, ELP, Genesis (pre-Phil Collins trio), Steve Hackett (post-Genesis), Yes, The Cure, and Muse - all "grown-up" music!
*cough*

Anyway... sod the US, pick on Canada they spawned Justin Beiber..

We certainly did not. He may be from Canada, but it was Americans who contacted him after watching his youtube singing videos. Blame them for making him a 'star'
