i JUST noticed that steam has all the original x-com games (found out while preordering the new one). i have been looking for ages for the originals, like dreaming when they will be on gog. and theyve been on steam for years now it seems. i feel dumb.
anyway, do u guys think with the renewed interest in x-com theres a good chance that these will come to gog? im surprised that they havent yet if theybe been on steam for so long.

The question comes up from time time. I think TET said recently (in his special enigmatic way) that we shouldn't hold our breath. I don't think that 2K is interested on selling games on GOG, though it's a bit odd. The whole package of old X-COM games can also be bought DRM free on GamersGate (I got it for 1.37€ during the winter sales, probably due to an erroneous double discount), and I don't see why they _shouldn't_ be offered here on GOG, but apparently there's someone or something preventing it.

Well, I think it's better to get the whole pack DRM free via Steam or Gamersgate for like, $3, than pay the $9.99 each they would be on GOG, just saying.

I thought the _whole_ pack is DRM-free only on GamersGate, not Steam? And even on GG you probably need to do The Workaround to make them all truly DRM-free. The first three games are DRM-free also on Steam AFAIK.

Anyway, if they appeared on GOG, they'd hardly cost $9.99 a pop. It'd seem more probable that e.g. the first three games would be in a bundle costing that $9.99 all together, and the other two maybe €5.99 a piece.

Or then the same complete collection as in GamersGate and Steam, with pretty much the same price.

Those are DosBox games and DRM free on both services.

2K is boycotting GOG, which I don't understand. From the price the original X-COM would fit nicely in here. Each single one for 6$, the complete pack for 15$ and occasionally 50% discount.

"Boycotting" ? They simply haven't come to a business agreement.

I doubt GOG is super excited to go after these anyway, they know 90% of their audience have them on Steam already, got them for super cheap and they are DRM free because of Dosbox.

If they did get 2K on board I would be much more excited for classics not on Steam or DRM free versions of games that use Steamworks.

Steamworks is DRM (as Steam is DRM)? So not compatible with GoG's DRM-free stance i would think.

As for X-com, IF GoG were to get the games, for the first two (Ufo Defense/Ufo Enemy Unknown and Terror from the Deep) they should look to get the later remakes that are sometimes called 'Gold' versions. Those are the ones that came out in 1998 on a 'Collectors Edition' and were windows 95 rather than Dos. They had fixed the 'reset to beginner' bug in those version iirc?

Beginner's bug can also be fixed by modifying the exe, so you can have the Dos version without the bug.
