The Special Edition allows you to switch to "classic" mode.
Good news! The special edition contains the old one. Just press Page Up and Page Down!

In MI2 you can even keep the voices on while playing with the traditional graphics.
As said previously: The special editions include the option to switch to the original graphics
Oh, ahah, sweet...thanks
If you really really want the original I am afraid you need to seek in the shady corners of the torrents. But at least once found you can play in almost every system thanks to scummvm: http://scummvm.org/compatibility/
Sadly, there isn't an option to play the old version with the new voice acting (afaik, please prove me wrong).
MI you cannot. MI2 you can.

Not officially, but I remember there being some kind of project that extracts the original game + the voice files and lets you play them in ScummVM.

I'm happy to prove you wrong. The extractor will also pull out a MI CD edition that will work directly with ScummVM.

That just creates a new problem. Where to get the MI CD edition.
Surely there is some way to simply get the special edition to keep talking when you change to classic mode. As nice as the new graphics are, they just aren't how I remember and grew up with monkey island. I find myself rather playing without voice.

I'm fairly sure you just need the special edition. Where does anyone say you need the CD edition?

I think you're misinterpreting me. The MI CD edition can be extracted from the MI:SE game files.

Cool, I might just have to do that.
