I want to buy this game from Steam but GFWL is more annoying for me than SecuROM.
Have GTA4 and haven't got any problems with its SecuROM.

Coelocanth: I don't know, chautemoc, that interview with Svensson isn't exactly clear. The way I read it, it's a one-time on-line authentication and after that you're good to go. Where he says this:
"We haven't historically implemented phone home mechanisms," he said. "Basically once you've authenticated with us upon installation you're done."
It seems to me he's implying there's a single on-line activation/authentication upon install but they don't want to go the route of recurring phone-home authentications.

Yeah, he was speaking generally there, though. WIth SF IV specifically, he's stated on multiple occasions its disc-based only. Either way, whatever, I'm going to be cracking it so no activation necessary.

Why do you dislike it? I've used it with Gears of War and found it very smoothly integrated -- no client running in the background, at least.
Umm I think it's totally optional, though? Not positive as its a new title..but it was with Gears, anyway.

GFWL has limited activations 10 or 20, I don't know exactly also it supports 26 countries worldwide and Turkey is not one of them so I can't play multiplayer on LIVE enables games. And some LIVE enabled games features DLC's and I don't like Microsoft Points system (I can't buy points anyway because I am in unsupported country) And because of these I don't like LIVE. :)

SF doesnt use it for DRM though, so no worries there.
Sucks about multiplayer. :(
I dont buy DLC anyway, so not an issue for me..

It doesn't up to Capcom or SF4, all GFWL titles have activation limits and there is no revoke tool. GTA 4, DOW2, Fallout 3 etc... Relic also said we didn't use GFWL for DRM but they saw when the game released. So it is up to Microsoft. A lot of users have problems with GFWL activation.

Read last FAQ. And bad thing is they say Microsoft Support is dumb, they talk about Xbox 360 when users say them you reached the activation limit on PC.
Also here and here.

What the fuck. =/
I had no idea about any of this. I'm gonna contact Capcom and Microsoft and find out what the deal is with SF IV -- what a bunch of bullshit.
Thanks for the info about GFWL - I had absolutely no idea about activation limits.
I knew GFWL was clunky, but really ...
Wow, GFWL is far worse than I realized. :O
DRM considerations aside, the PC version of Street Fighter IV would definitely be the one to get. It's the most faithful conversion (the original arcade game runs on Windows XP Embedded on standard PC hardware) and Capcom is planning to include features not present in the console versions.

Already mentioned. :)
I'm dying for it -- I run the benchmark about 6,000 times a day.
If there are limited activations, though, I'd honestly say the console version is the one to get. :P
Just got this response from Capcom:
"As far as I know there are no activation limitations with the retail version of the game. You will need a Games for Windows account and the code which should be included with the game. If you get the digital version of the game activation limitations are set forth by the vendor you go through."
Not sure if they mean GfWL is needed for online activation period, or just online play as stated previously..
Talked to Microsoft, they're gonna phone me back within 48 hours. :P
Edit: got this response:
"This is Sam from Games for Windows Live, I am emailing you in regards to your question about Street Fighter IV. As for the installation limits you can install the game as many times as you want. Some games ask for a product key which we are unaware of any installation limits regarding Street Fighter IV. Also the game does have the live service available so you would need online activation.
If you have any further questions just email back."
Edit 2: "Online activation is not manditory, but when you are signed into Live, you will earn Achivements, GamerScore, and if downloadable content becomes available, then you will need to be signed into live in order to access that."
:)

deoren: Any perks for pre-ordering the game? I haven't looked, but I'd imagine they're throwing something in.

Hey, just found this.
SecuROM blew up my DVD drive.
I have over 180 games installed.
Over 15 of them have some form of securom on them.
My PC is rock stable and everything works perfectly. Fear of DRM is overblown.

TheJoe: SecuROM blew up my DVD drive.

Surprisingly, that's actually not too far from the truth. Every time I put my Crysis DVD in the drive it acts like it is going to rattle my drive apart. It takes about 10 seconds while it makes awful racket and then Windows sees it and I can access all of the disc content just fine. As far as I know that is the only disc I've had that problem with. Many others have had the same problem.
I'm glad the disc check didn't kill my drive, but from all of the racket I really expected it to.
