I have a three day weekend coming up and I'm looking for a game to buy. OF: DR is one of the potential games I'm considering.
Anyone play it yet? I know it won't be as hardcore as the original, but as long as it's not as simplified as CoD 4, I'll enjoy it.
Anyone know if it's splitscreen offline for at least two players?

Why not ARMA 2? OFP2 is something I might get, but in my opinion ARMA 2 is the true successor to OFP.

Not yet, but I fully intend to. ARMA 2 and OFP were both made by Bohemia, but OFP2 is made in-house.

I didn't know ArmA 2 was on the 360. But I live in the middle of the desert on this lovely military base where the selection of titles is limited so I'm pretty sure the exchange won't have it. I did see America's Army though, but I just can't lower my standards and play Army. Also I played the PC version years ago and remembered it was pretty mediocre.

Arma II is not on the 360, as far as I know. And DO NOT BUY ANY RETAIL COPY OF AMERICA'S ARMY. It's GRAW's controls and combat wrapped around America's Army in a poor fashion. The free PC version is pretty fun, but stay away from all console versions.

ARMA 2 is not on the 360 now, but it will be soon.

They'd better get another team to port it to the 360, then, because they can not launch a console game in the state ARMA II launched.

Yeah, but that usually means consolification among bug fixes, and if that's the case, it'll be watered down.

Should tell you if it's your kind of game or not.
Sounds like it's more solid than ARMA2, though still with flakey AI at times. Also singleplayer is pretty linear, but MP is fun. (though more like GRAW than OPF).
If you are on the 360 you probably don't want to get ARMA2, as without all the fan made mods it's a bit too flakey.

ARMA 2 is for the diehard milsim guy, really. OFP2 is branded as some realistic shooter too, but from what I've seen, even the command menus and stuff are basic compared to the advanced things you can tweak in ARMA 2. It seems to be like a notch or two above COD in the whole realism arena, but it's by no means the best. I think that I'll get it, and I'll enjoy more because I'll probably be able to max it out since it uses a slightly more optimized engine than ARMA 2.

From what I've read some still can't complete the thing due to the bugs. From what I've played of the demo, I have to agree with the criticisms levelled at its controls. There's being a sim then there's just being convoluted.

Yeah, you either have a good command/control system in place or you don't, a la Modern Warfare. You can't just have some sort of rudimentary thing in the middle. There's no best of both worlds in a realistic shooter.

Good =/= comprehensive. The game has many command & control options, but that doesn't mean that they're all well implemented, or even that they're all necessary.
