Hey GOG, I'm looking for an open ended mmo, not un-like SWG pre-NGE (best MMO ever made) and not like WoW or SWG killer TOR. A game where you are on your own for the begging so you have to get things like fish and go sell them to other players to make some money, or the economy is player run. I have tried the EVE trial and there was one reasons I didn't think I could play: It is way too complicated. I have been suggested Ultima Online, can anyone tell me what that is about also? Thanks guys!

Sacri... Oh wait, that's not an MMO. This then:

Earthrise was supposed to be like SWG pre-NGE, but it was a bit underdeveloped. I played it and it was pretty cool, but had a lot of issues.

Sadly, it seems to have gone under...

Ultima Online is a game you have to play on private servers. You can find populated ones easily. The official game server has pretty much lost its userbase due to change.

Others to look at might be Haven and Hearth, or Salem (it's a Paradox-published game, beta keys are handed out frequently) but both of them are HARDCORE PvP-oriented games.

Oh, and Rise ( http://rise.unistellar.com ) is cool, but it's pretty much dead. I think it's only still operating because the company makes enough off of contracts to continue hosting it. It does get developed pretty regularly though, often in bursts, rather than consistently (I still get emails from the JIRA).

Ultima Online is probably the most open ended (large) MMO to date.
You get to pick what character to play. There are no levels, instead you have skills that you raise individually. To avoid players becoming totally overpowered you get a maximum of 700 "skill points", and the cap for each individual skill is 100. So you can max out 7 skills, if you want to, or dabble in a lot of skills. And yes, it is entirely possible to make a fisherman/carpenter/smith/mage/animal tamer/musician/medium (as in speaks to the dead), if you so desire, but there are skills that complements each other, so you should not do that, unless it sounds fun. Still, the game also rewards some mix & matching. Also, some skills are just there for fun, and serve little real use (sure, forensic evaluation might be a fun skill, but really, it is pointless)
The world has no restrictions on where you can and can not go, apart from logical things blocking your path, like walls & mountains. Nor are there any designated newbie or "high end" areas, though obviously a brand new character should not fight dragons, unless it is in a party with more skilled characters. You get to pick where you want to start (any of the major cities), and then it is up to you what you do next.
The game is not instanced, meaning that if you so desire, you can find 1000 persons and start killing dragons together, or stand in front of the castle, mooning it. You always have to share your space with other players, which is both nice & annoying (though some spots are obviously more popular than others).
Players can own property. This includes houses & ships. You also get to decorate your own houses with whatever you want to decorate it with.

Sadly the actual gameplay is not that great. UO is a game that lives & dies with its community, and the official servers are getting pretty depopulated.
I used to play Darkwind: War on Wheels a lot. Have you played it before? It sounds right up your alley. I only stopped because I really didn't have the time to commit. It's a phase-based tactical car combat wargame. Otherwise, it's kept me hooked for around 6 years, on and off.

Actually, Entropia is a very active MMO. It's numbers are smaller than many other MMOs, but it's one of the few that's been constantly growing without any hiccups since it appeared. Also, it was the first MMO where someone became a millionaire by just playing it.

At first I thought a car combat game?? And then I actually looked, it looks awesome.
Dark Fall and perpetum

though both are more Ganking and less sandboxing.
I've never enjoyed MMOs but I like to try new, Entropia Universe seems really interesting.
I want to say that Ryzom and Wurm Online sound like the game you want, but I never personally played them....I really should.

Be sure to read the wikipedia page for info as well. Did I mention you don't have to pay anything for it ? :P

I've played Wurm for some time, it's a great "sandbox" game, constantly evolving. You can build houses, boats, go hunting, chop wood or mine rocks to make tons of items. Also I've heard of Xsyom (a game with similar mechanics), but never played it. Go and check 'em!

EDIT: Ryzom seems to be really interesting... I'll try it soon.

I assumed there was a trial but it seemed free so I just began downloading the client and made an account.

There webside had a beginner's guide so I'll make sure to read through that. :)

Read through the wiki, it seems it's really based upon microtransactions and real money trading, at least to get a start if you're going to be a pro. Nevertheless, it's worth a try out.

I suggest you stick to it, it can be a little hard at first, especially if you're not gonna put any money in it, but it's worth it, trust me. The nice part is that you can actually earn money playing it. Every item in there is worth a certain amount in real-life cash, so when you decide to stop playing, you can cash in your account. How come you never heard about it? It's made in your country...
