i have to say that i'm getting annoyed by these people that rate a game as 1 star, because it doesn't work on their computer. back in the day, these games worked just fine on the systems they were intended for.

when you rate a game, rate it on it's content, not the inability of your computer. if you can't play it, how do you know if it's any good? you don't and you shouldn't be giving it a rating.

as an example - look at all the 1 star ratings on Dungeon Keeper 2. they're all because the computer they're using is incompatible. they are all old comments (some from even a year ago) and say something like "it doesn't work on Win7". well it works perfectly fine on my Win7 so that's your computer and not the game that should be getting the 1 star.

if a game doesn't work, tell GOG and not in a false "review"

GOG needs to delete these 1 star non-reviews, because they are not actually reviews. i'm marking them as spam when i see them.

People really need to learn how to use the "Support" feature.

All you can do is (as you have) mark it as spam and let the staff remove them if they chose to do so.

I do agree that the "doesn't work on my machine game is broken" type reviews should be taken down.

It depends on the situation. Dungeon Keeper 2 is probably a grey area but after the GPU patch that arrived in the late summer it probably works on most people's computer even with Windows 7. However, if games continue to become broken like Gorky 17, Interstate'76 or Silver (I know they work on some) I think it's a legitmate reason to give it a lesser review score, after all the review is about the entirety of the the game. A review shouldn't be composed of gameplay only, that isn't a good review.

Let me say that again, in case you missed it, and even if you didn't, I think it bears repeating.

I disagree. When I read a game review, notes about brokeness or twitchiness are very much appreciated. I don't always have the time or desire to tinker with my games.

The only problem with such gripes is that a reviewer frequently won't not come back and update their review after there has been an update.

Don't forget about the people who rate a game as 1 star because of its price .

This is what I would call illegitimate review, that was Amazon's fault. Obviously.

At the time that review was written was it able to not write the review of the said product but Amazon's shipping process? I don't think they usually separate the two but still.

Maybe add the feature for "No Rating" reviews for when it refuses to work?

Yes, absolutly they could, thats what floored me. All it would have taken was clicking one button over and they would have criticized the correct party. Maybe they were just lazy.

In responce to Snikersnacks post, that is a really good point, but there is a fine line between a game being really buggy (which should go against the game's rating) and it maybe being a little tricky to install which goes on the installer. Of course some company's (I'm not naming names EA) do absolutly nothing to help anyone if there is a quirk to installing so thats another can of worms all together.

A nimrod is actually a biblical reference to a warrior, so I guess it doesn't really work does it? Interesting fact, I live a few hours north of a town who's high school football teams is The Nimrods.

think about it for a moment, GOG doesn't just slap games online. they make an effort to make them compatible with today's computers. if they didn't they wouldn't have anything to sell. so obviously they do test them, but with the infinite flavors of hardware out there for the PC, they can make them compatible for the majority.

as for the simple "this game is awesome!!!" 5 star reviews. was that helpful? absolutely not. click that [NO] button and move on.

this has nothing to do with "how dare you have a different opinion of the game to me." as you put it, but people that think a game deserves 1 star because their system doesn't work with with the software. i used DK2 as an example because there's two 1 star "reviews" on the front page for that reason. i think you'd be hard pressed to find a game that doesn't at least have one of these 1 star hardware "reviews" on it.

The same applies to the reviews you take issue with, there's no need to create complaint threads on the forums and no need to abuse the spam report button, just press 'no' and move on.
