I couldn't decide so everyone got an entry and MoP wins ;-)

Thank you to everyone for the great suggestions! I've had many happy hours of trying to escape the room and apparently will have many more!

I love one-room escape adventure games! Today, I was reading the latest Wired magazine and came across an article about a company that hosts real-life one-room escape games that look like a ton of fun but extremely difficult;

http://realescapegame.com/events/

An older article;
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2012/03/locked-room-mystery-in-san-francisco-pits-players-against-werewolf-incursion/

and and article about the most current game;
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2012/06/real-escape-game-returns-with-mad-scientist-and-haunted-house/

To enter, please post a link to either your favorite or simply just found "One-room escape" game. Obviously these should be free to play, web-based games, certified freeware games or available for purchase. Add a blurb as to why I should try your suggestion if you'd like, This isn't required but it may sell me on trying your favorite and increase your odds ;-p

No entry requirements.

Winner chosen on the basis of which game I like the best. If I like more than one then the gods of randomness will select a winner for me.

Prize: Winner can select from my available "gift-list" which currently is not extensive but is rather varied for a wide range of tastes ;-p

I've never been able to escape from my real room, what the hell would I know about doing it virtually?

I'm not quite sure if I understand what a One Room Adventure game is. Is it one where each screen/room/area is a self-contained puzzle, and you need to beat it to move on to the next self contained puzzle? Something along the line of say Not pr0n?
I think this giveaway was totally meant for me.. assuming the Zero Escape series counts as "one-room escape" games.

Anyway, my favorite is Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999) for the Nintendo DS. You're trapped on a sinking ship and you have to figure out how to escape from room after room. It's my favorite game on the DS, and has one of my favorite stories of all time. Can't go wrong with trying it.. if you have a Nintendo DS.

2nd favorite would be Virtue's Last Reward, which is a sequel to 999 (for the 3DS and Vita).

I have no idea if you have a DS though, so I'm not sure if you could try 999? If not, you can exclude my entry ;)

There's actually a web browser based demo on the site.

Ive always been a fan of the White Chamber. It was the first one I ever played. Its been a long time since I have looked it up though. Ill look for the link and post it here when I find it.

Edit Well I found it but it seems the site it was on went down a few years ago. I cant for the life of me finding a working link to it. It was the White Chamber by Fasco

This link shows an image of it http://www.gamekb.com/games/1365457-white-chamber

Fasco's site went down, and I don't believe it can be found anywhere else so im going to go away from the computer and think about how old I am now. (Im really not that old. this just makes me feel old)

That one was cute! Definitely a lot less scary than JohnWalrus's offering ;-p
Heres a popular series I'm aware of that you can play for free:

Glad I could rattle a few bones ;P I dunno how many people here have an Xbox 360, but there's a pretty interesting indie horror escape game series on there called "Decay". Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qazLq3lX60Q
