My fav Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie might be Conan.

It qualifies as a genuinly good movie with lots of themes going on, epic music, memorable characters and beautiful scenes.

But its also a kickass adventure movie thats full of 80s and full of machismo and it just kicks so much ass.
I do enjoy the musical versions of Arnies' movies.

Commando
Conan the Barbarian
Predator
"You're fired"
-True Lies

I mean "I'll be bock" was great but Kindergarten Cop was priceless ;-p Then to go onto being a Governor - California rocks!

Totally agree, especially about the music.

Bonus points for german native speakers, who watch Conan in the original. The accent is horrible, even for our ears.

80s action movies you just cant beat very little plot but lots and lots of action. One of my Favorites was Commando although the scene where Arnie is mowing down 100s of guys in a garden standing there and not shot once does make me cringe a bit but hey who likes reality.
I must admit I've never really like Arnold in his movies _except_ for the Conan movies and the first (and maybe second) Terminator movies, even though I usually liked the kind of movies he made (Predator etc. etc. etc.). Dang, I really feel Total Recall would have been even better with some other protagonist, maybe even Stallone.

"True Lies" was a bit of a surprise though, he was actually pretty good in it.

That said, I can't say I nowadays like The Rock or Vin Diesel either, even though I used to like them in their earlier movies, like Vin in Pitch Black. Heck, the same happened also to Steven Seagal, I always thought he was so super cool in Above the Law, but the more movies I saw from him, my dislike grew.

Maybe it is just when they become superstars and movies are designed around their character (and they are not a "mere" actor in it anymore), I go meh. Like Pitch Black vs Chronicles of Riddick.

Vin's in a new Riddick movie. Not sure when it comes out to theaters, but I keep seeing previews for it on the telly.

Are you saying his accent when speaking German is as bad as his Austrian accent when speaking English?

Why is that of note? You can go see R rated and NC-17 movies.

jjsimp: The Rock, Vin Diesel, and that dude from the newest Conan movie were supposed to take over that throne. But for some reason they never really established themselves.
It's a matter of taste, but I think Arnold probably was one of a kind which we'll hardly get to see again. I think his looks and accent among other things were a smashing combination which fit perfectly into the action movie "climate" of the 80s and early 90s. No other actors I've seen can match that. "The Expendables" just doesn't work for me in the same way. I don't expect much from any future movie roles for Arnold, either. His prime ended a long time ago.

I thought maybe some would consider it unusual for someone my age to like 80s movies and music. Much of the time I feel the same way about my interest in GOG games. I don't know anyone else, my age, from my area, who likes playing any of the GOG games that I play.

I was talking about his Austrian accent when speaking English ... even for us, it sounds horrible. But, since it sounds just as horrible, when he talks German, I think that's okay.

Nice detail: the guy who dubs Arnold in the German versions of his movies is the same as for Sly Stallone. That was quite interesting in Expendables ;-)

So what they did for the scene where they meet? And more importantly is your username a Discworld reference?
