So I was browsing the internet trying to find an alternative to cans of compressed air, and I came across this:

Metro Vacuum ED500 DataVac 500-Watt 0.75-HP Electric Duster 120-Volt

Has anybody here used this and have anything to say about this? Or should I just stick with cans of compressed air?

I've used something similar, but the disadvantage of that is the size, needing an electrical outlet, and the noise. If you just use it at home it's great, but if you routinely clean family members computers as well, a can of compressed is more handy.
If you look around there are cheaper options to the canned dusters where it has a removal nozzle, the only problems with those was finding the replacement air cannisters. Easier just to go to Office store or Walmart and get one.

My mistake that one is a lot smaller than the one I was carrying around for awhile (probably 1/3 size) and it has a lot of good reviews. If I still took care of a lot of desktop computer I would probably try it, but all I work on now is family and friends laptops.

For the price, you'd have to use it a LOT to make up the cost versus canned air.

That said, I sure could use something like this for work. Beats firing up the air compressor every time I need to clean gunk off some grimy parts before a wipe-down.

I only have two computers (a custom build and a laptop) that I clean routinely, so it's not that much work for the most part. I was mainly looking for an alternative because of one of the heatsink (Noctua 6 NH-D14) is big and after using the can of air I still notice dust on it (unless there's something else I should do when cleaning it). The size I suppose wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Heatsinks with all the fins are a major pain in the ass with compressed air. Using a qtip or something similar in size to get between the fins, or the straw like nozzle that comes with the compressed air.

I've never found this to be a particular problem. Most of the time the dust is barely in there, and comes out easily, with even a normal fan.

Just a regular qtip? Nothing I need to spray on it or anything? I suppose I could use that for the heatsink. The straw that I get from the cans...I don't think would do that great (don't remember how small the space between the fins are, but I'm kind of sure the straw might not fit in between).

Yeah, just the qtip on the metal fins. Don't really want to use that on any of the computer chips around that area (static electricity).

If you use your computer it's going to get dusty. A blow out with an air duster once in a while is fine. You won't get everything out, but unless you're having major heat management issues then really don't worry about it! You'd be better off just using your normal vacuum cleaner to clean the room your PC's in more regularly... ;)

Seems overkill for a single household. For the same money as that electric duster I could buy 4 years of compressed air.

I've got one of these and it works great. It is noisy but it is much better at getting the dust out than the cans of air.
