QC: It took me a bit of searching to find out that was actually a thing. Still, I was playing with it a bit and didn't get very far. What exactly did you have to do to get a code out of it, aside from the decryption?
*Spoiler*

It is encrypted multiple times. Keep deciphering the result until it makes sense.

Nothing aside from the decryption. You just needed to shift all the letters by a fixed offset (12) to get the cleartext, which reads:

here is a gift code for caesar iii zxjr l3f3 qqdn 334l.

spindown: Congrats, enjoy the game!

In case anyone is interested, I gave away a code for Caesar III in the OP. The message was encrypted with a Caesar cipher.

The code is the last 16 letters.

Tormentfan: It's a shift in the alphabet.. by so many letters, it's a direct translation cypher, but I don't know by how many letters.
Well, I tried translating it into latin first, then realized who the statue was of. I wound up digging the names and found out that there was such a thing as a ceasar cipher. But then I never got anywhere with it.

No matter. This wasn't exactly a game I had interest in so no loss.
-14 Alphabet shift for decryption. I got -14 from figuring that M = A from the OP.

Where did you get the 12 from?

The 12 is a random choice I made. To find it you can either try every possibility until you get a meaningful cleartext or you can figure out that OMQEMD UUU = CAESAR III, which gives you the correct offset.

Fair enough :)

I just wondered if there was a clue within the clue, before I'd noticed it was taken I'd made a start on shift 13, after the legion he marched on Rome with Legio XIII.
