RetroVortex: EDIT 2: Also another good tip for users. "corrupt" mp3s can normally be fixed by resaving them in audacity,
As a sound engineer and relatively computer audio savvy person, I have to say that that's a terrible solution. mp3 is a lossy format which means what you get back out isn't as good as what you put in.

When you re-encode something from a lossy format to another lossy format, you're compounding the artifacts and generally making everything terrible. :P

Heh. If you got a better solution them I'm all ears! XD
(Its the only solution I personally could find buried on the net)

It doesn't matter too much to me, the sound is still pretty good. (The original source files for my music are pretty good in quality anyway so the loss isn't too bad)

Its a quick and messy fix, which is handy when you have loads of mp3 that the psp refuses to play because its WAY too fussy.
(Its a software thing thats for certain since these mp3s WILL work on homebrew mp3 players on the PSP. Its a shame no-one ever tried to upgrade the built-in mp3 player anyway (probably too much hassle I'd guess), especially since homebrew efforts are either too basic or unstable)

Nah, I'm afraid my only real suggestion is re-rip the CDs or re-encode them from clean FLAC sources or something. :P
I'm just a bit of an audiophile really.
Get both. Mod the 1000 one to play homemade software and use the 3000 one to play commercial games on a TV screen :-P

A 3000 can play homemade software on a TV screen too. ;)

A 1000 can play most commercial games on a computer screen (which could be a TV) via a USB connection with the remotejoy utility. Remotejoy also lets you use a gamepad. This kind of defeats the purpose of a portable though. ;)

evilguy12: Both versions can be cracked easily now. Personally I prefer the 1000 model because it doesn't feel like it's going to snap in my hands and the screen doesn't have any scanlines.

For games?

Gitaroo Man: Lives
Final Fantasy Tactics (even if you have played it, new translation makes the story better)
Persona 3
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Lumines (I or II)
MGS: Peacewalker

...are all essentials in my mind.

@GameRager, you don't even need to crack the firmware now. Homebrew can be run on Official Firmware without any hacking required.

Oh and PSP is region is free. So you can import away.
Don't forget about Persona 1 and Persona 2: Innocent Sin, which was just released not too long ago.

They worth playing? I am thinking about getting P2 but I heard it has an annoyingly high encounter rate and a slow battle system.

The first one, SMT:Persona, plays sort of like an Eye of the Beholder dungeon crawler (first-person view, 90 degree turn angle etc.) and has you walking around on a map[ of sorts. The encounter rate for that one varies but you can negate battles by talking to the demons and basically getting them to leave but you get no XP from that.

Innocent Sin plays somewhat similarly but also introduces the "Rumor" mechanic where you can, via rumormongering, change the equipment a shop carries and other things.

Also, Eternal Punishment, the second half of Persona 2, is getting an English-language PSP port due out sometime in May of this year.

Both games are fun but the first one, Persona, may take some time to get into after P3 Portable.

Innocent Sin also features a second story line (the Snow Queen quest) and a secret recruitable character that requires a bit of a guide in order to fulfill the requirements to get him.

Which of the 2 has the better writing? That's the main draw for me for Persona.

Ooh that's a tough one only because I haven't played them in a while. I liked them both, really.

I would say Persona 1 has a great story if you get the secret recruitable character because he adds a bit of a tragic angle to it.
