It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Here's what I know:
- Daemon tools has a specific feature for emulating analog CD-audio playback. Other virtual drives may or may not have that feature.
- Some game copy protection systems will refuse to run your game if a virtual CD-ROM drive is detected on the system They assume that the only possible use for such software is piracy.
- To counteract this, on each new release of Daemon Tools the name of their emulation driver is changed. Typically such copy protection systems will only detect versions of Daemon Tools released before the game in question. Use a new version and you should be able to avoid these problems.
- Pro tip: If you install Daemon Tools with the default options, you will also get some adware installed on your system. (A browser toolbar or something, I forget) The Daemon Tools people are pretty upfront about it though, if you just pay attention when running the installer you can de-select it and it won't be installed.

That are the issues I am afraid of. Strangely, nero image drive has never been detected by any copy protection my games have had. Do they specifially only check for the presence of Daemon tools, because this is the most widely spread one?
In the mean time, I've made a .nrg image of Battlezone for testing purposes. Of course, when I first mounted the image, I got no CD-audio, everything else was fine. Then I remembered:

Arkose: For Windows games, note that some are hard-coded to look for the CD in D: (or, alternately, the first optical drive--whichever one has the lowest letter) even if you installed them from a different letter..

I gave it a try, switched the letter of the BluRay drive (which was the first optical drive) with the image drive and - voilà - it worked! (even with nero image drive)
Thanks a lot for your hints! :)

sheepdragon: I could never get World of Xeen running with ripped discs actually. I had to mount the physical discs in DOSBox using this (can't remember the exact thing right now; @work):
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl
Another thing you might want to check is the IRQ settings in the dosbox.conf file.
EDIT:
Added something to the mount thing.

my autoexec in my .conf file looks like this:
mount c d:\oldgames\
C:
imgmount d NEW_WO~2.cue NEW_WO~4.cue -t iso
cd world
The game runs just fine, I just can't get the audio track synchronized.

After checking around a bit, I found a topic on the official DOSBox forums that explained it a bit. The default IRQ for World of Xeen is 5, so you can edit the DOSBox.conf file to use IRQ=5 for audio.
Or you can modify the DARK/XEEN.CFG and edit this line:
07002002030020020500
To this
07002002030020020700
(change the 5 to 7).
However, you must not do both, because that won't fix anything.
I'm not completely sure if that will fix it, but it's worth a try, I suppose.
Nope, Mayor Gunther audio still says "..s, I'm always glad to see you..... This place is.." when he is supposed to say "My favorite citizens, I'm always glad to see you."
crap. :(

Yeah, I saw in the same topic that it didn't work for some. What version of World of Xeen do you have? I've got the double disc version that comes with the Ultimate RPG Archives.

I have the original double disc version that came out in 1995. Most likely they're the same thing, though. I have the patch installed that lets you press F to force it to re-query for the CD, which is the only real way to get it to work properly in Dosbox without hanging during world switches with CD audio on.
The behavior with the CD audio is the same with or without the patch, though..

Peculiar... Well, DOSBox can respond differently to various computer configurations, so different settings might apply. Your best bet would be to ask here then. I think that the official forums might yield some better results.
Funny thing.. I used to have the Ultimate RPG Archive, too.. Don't know where any of the disks went, other than the Ultima Underworld 1&2 one.

I posted on another thread about it.. Never really got a reply.. I think they're still working on getting CD audio to work from the CDs themselves in Dosbox before they address this kind of issue.
Personally I was just hoping that GOG would get the game, and figure out a way with Ubisoft how to get it working properly with an image file on Dosbox by modifying the source code! :)
