This is old news. While the CNN article is from today, Zimbardo's eponymous talk is about a year old (I think), perhaps older.

Zimbardo has been an authority in psychology (especially social psychology, though he wrote a very successful introductory book for students that covers much more), but his talk basically consisted of spreading the usual prejudice without providing any convincing evidence, which I would have expected from a renowned scientist.

Fenixp: He actually sounded more concerned about people badmouthing those in the industry, as Leroux said.
It wasn't me who said that, I was more talking about the image of masculinity than about pornography, but I won't disagree with it either, as I hate badmouthing and don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to lead different lifestyles without other people looking down on them, as long as they don't do (actual) harm unto others.

Leroux: ...
Well I think your point stands pretty much for anything, really. Just add to the 'porno actors are actually poor, lost souls' - when he was lecturing about pornography (yes, Czech porno actors are that awesome,) he asked who directly participated in porn. Good 1/4 of faculty of law raised their hands. I can guarantee you that most of those people aren't exactly poor. And, ehm, isn't Germany a sacred land of pornography and isn't SimonG a lawyer? Somebody call him, I've got some Questions that need answering.

Elmofongo: Exactly I bet money if I found out that even the most hardcore feminist is reading Harry Potter yaoi

GameRager: It'd be hilarious for a male version of the feminist movement sprang up, bemoaning the "vile" wolf whistling women at the local male strip club & on the streets.

"They looked at me and whistled while calling me a hunksicle.....a HUNKSICLE......."
My wife gets so tired of that, walking together down the street and all these women whistling at me, asking if I got fries with that shake, making the "call-me" hand gesture...

; )

Heh, you should use it as an opportunity then to convince her that the ONLY way they'll stop is if she, you, and a few of them have a fun group gathering sometime. ;) XD
I like games. I like porn. But I don't masturbate to video games. Ergo: not the same.

Well I think one point of the "article" was that people can get hooked on things, hence the similarities......the other point about such addictions always/mostly being detrimental or bad for us, or "Destroying america/the youth", are a bunch of crap though.
I stopped masturbating to read this?
Yes.

A little humiliating when parent(s) walk into the room and there's *ahem* all over the screen!

You could pretend it's the clean version where they replaced the gore with something more innocuous ... ;)
The consequences could be dramatic: The excessive use of video games and online porn in pursuit of the next thing is creating a generation of risk-averse guys who are unable (and unwilling) to navigate the complexities and risks inherent to real-life relationships, school and employment.

Hey, that's 100% accurate about me! Dammit Video Games, I should sue you - but that seems too much of a bother, so I think I'll go back to working through my gaming backlog.
Jesus, i cant even express how pathetic that article is.

Guys are also totally out of sync in romantic relationships, which tend to build gradually and subtly, and require interaction, sharing, developing trust and suppression of lust at least until "the time is right."

Which means all of us are forever alone. Yay. Well, at least we have more time and money to invest in gaming, uh?
