Licurg: Secondly, as low as the average IQ is globally, i seriously doubt there's that many people who are stupid enough to actually believe what CNN says.
You... are optimistic about the people around you. I think that's where you deviate from a lot of others on this board!

Vestin: "Such new brains are also totally out of sync in traditional school classes, which are analog, static and interactively passive."

This sentence sounds extremely appealing out of context. Think about it, people - what could the solution to such a situation be ?
Making the school system less crap so it's not static and passive?

Anyway, good article. And by good I mean that special sense of good that's both hilarious and profoundly depressing. :/ I liked this quote from a commentor: "Change the date line on the article to 1982 and it would have been written about rap music. Change the date line on the article to 1978 and it would have been written about punk rock. Change the date line on the article to 1962 and it would have been written about the Beatles (it would have likely included girls then). Change the date line on the article to 1952 and it would have been written about comic books. Change the date line on the article to 1922 and it would have been written about Jazz music. All I'm sayin'."

Hm, Phillip Zimbardo wrote my Psych 101 textbook.

Avogadro6: My first guess would be... PHILOSOPHY! :D
Well... I actually meant "If that's the case - we should fix the classes and make them more digital, dynamic and interactively active, thus - in touch with the new brains"... but Philosophy works too, since it's mostly about active thinking and curiosity, as opposed to gorging on trivia.
But I'd like to stress that I'm not THAT predictable and single-minded, so Philosophy was NOT on my mind when posting that ;P.

Immoli: Because people watch and read CNN and will take this shit seriously. Perhaps they will push for more banning of video games in countries because they heard that they are the evils.
avatar
Licurg: First of all, CNN doesn't have the audience they once had anymore. Secondly, as low as the average IQ is globally, i seriously doubt there's that many people who are stupid enough to actually believe what CNN says. There's hundreds of millions of gamers around, that's more people than will ever watch Ted Turner's commie shithole. So unless you live in Germany or Australia, you have nothing to worry about.
Nothing to worry about in the US? http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-06-27-supreme-court-violent-video-games_n.htm
Luckily the Supreme Court ruled against it, but it is a very real threat.
The more this shit is spread around the more traction there will be for the next attempt.

Ah yeah, I've seen that before. Very interesting and animation makes everything better. :)

Also, I hate the way this article is still locked into the image of games being a boys' club, despite that being patently untrue.

Then fight them back, why don't gamers have unions or associations like other groups do? We should organize and fight against these scum.

Hopefully someone with some power to change things will see it, and think of it as idea worth trying...

That is some funny shit right there.
You don't get to be a major American 'news' network without pandering to popular opinion.

This, this 100 times this, I have had it with these old, ignorant, servile, scumbags already, people like them have been pushing censorship against the entertainment industry for far to long now

I'm serious. There's a lot of us, and politicians want votes. Painters can paint what they want, Hollywood can make any kind of movies that they want, writers can write any kind of book that they want, but i can't kill children in Skyrim because... What?
Blah bla bla

Men this, Men that, men aren't good enough, men should do more

yadda yadda yadda

I'm so sick of this

Why doesn't anyone write for a change how 90% of Women in the Western society are Evil, Soulless, life sucking harpies? That would be nice to read

Indeed, perhaps one way of fighting back could be to have a gaming site like IGN post an article whenever some other large company posts an article spreading false information about video games being a bad thing. This would allow more people who may not have heard about the original article to now hear about it and call the organization out on its bullshit. At the same time, the opposition to the bullshit may make other people who had read the original article to consider that what they had read may be wrong.
