I recently asked Steam support to change my email address because the Steam software wont let me and now they want me to prove I own all the software connected to my account...

They want my credit card info, fine but then

"If you registered software purchased at a retail location, please handwrite your Support Ticket Number on the quick reference card or sticker above the CD Key (the number should not be written on a separate piece of paper or inserted with an image editor) and reply with a digital photo or scan of the CD Key in .jpg format. Please ensure that you submit a full-color image, rather than a photocopy.",
like I have the fucking time for this.

What!? That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Are you sure you were actually e-mailing Steam tech support and not somebody scamming a Steam-like e-mail address?

I changed the email via the client a week ago. Try updating it, if it is not up to date.

Do you get any errors while trying to change your email via the client?
Well they only want a part of my credit card info so I doubt it is someone wanting to use my credit card. Yeah it is Steam support, for sure.

Yeah I get this Steam cannot currently process your request error, If I remember correctly.

If Origin will never ask me for such things when simply trying to change the email address then I'm switching to Origin instead of just being finished with Steam. Why are they treating me like a criminal... I've done nothing suspicious with the account.

Yeah, I had to go through that once. It's a wonder I still use Steam.
inb4 'can i have ur stuff'
Well I'll give them my credit card info but I refuse to dig through all my shit for CD keys and take pictures of them etc. I think I accidentally threw out one CD key too so...yeah.

How exactly did you contact steam, and can you post a url that you should be sending your reply to (i.e. begin to reply, copy the url, and post it here).

EDIT: I'm worried you're being phished.

I contacted Steam support through here
https://support.steampowered.com/
The second I've been contacting Steam support, they have been treating me like garbage, in my opinion. I've had enough. So can anyone tell me if Origin is like this too? Because I'm still a gamer, I have needs.

Shut down the client. Start it again, and then try to change the email.

If that doesn't work, shut it down, go to its installation directory, and rename or delete the file called ClientRegistry.blob file. This will force Steam to re-update itself. Then try to change the email.

If both of these suggestions don't work, proceed as Steam's support crew told you.

On a related note, GOG support crew also asks for a part of the last credit card you used here, to verify whether you're really you (happened to me when I asked them to change my username).

Maybe this whole thing is a standard safety practice?

It is not standard to ask me to prove ownership for all the games connected to my account after making a request to change the email address. I'm not complaining about having to give them my credit card info. I'm complaining about this
"If you registered software purchased at a retail location, please handwrite your Support Ticket Number on the quick reference card or sticker above the CD Key (the number should not be written on a separate piece of paper or inserted with an image editor) and reply with a digital photo or scan of the CD Key in .jpg format. The only thing they've ever asked me for was the code of the game I couldn't add (spore) once they confirmed it was a real key they added it for me and gave me a new key that would work if it didn't show up on the page (yes thats right they gave me a spare freaking key (that my partner stole))

They ask only for one key, not all of them. Same thing as Battle.net (probably), Blizzard also do this sometimes and they only ask for a single key.

Do you have any retail box around that you've activated on Steam?
It's kinda odd they ask that picture, like wpegg said about his concerns. A picture like that can be used to claim ownership of the entire account (that is the reason I'm really avoiding trading keys...)

Just be 100% sure you really are talking with Steam support...
