I'm also curious about the first bit. The second part seemed straightforward, I guess you had to shift with 1492, 1066, 1776 and 1969. I just never figured out the searching for the first part.

Those were the figures I was using too -- couldn't solve the code correctly though! (Although I did try 1783 and 1789 as well) I assumed the original code words were 71V5, DASF, NX3D and RMXE.

oasis789: Ok so from the clues and hints Lithrasil gave, the names correspond to 4 digit numbers i.e. a year. What is the most characteristic year associated with these names?
Shibboleth - Christopher Columbus - 1492
Ozymandis - William the Conqueror - 1066
Bhagvan - George Washington - 1776
Kopernikus - Neil Armstrong - 1969
1. Use the words and the search function to find the posts containing them, which give you a 4-string each
2. Use the associated 4 digit number to shift each letter/number in the string (lots of web apps can do this)
3. Put the shifted 4-strings together
The additional complexity was that each 4-string could be shifted left or right, so I had to try some combinations (LLLL etc) before I got the right one. Fortunately the winning combination was among the more intuitive ones.
Aha, no wonder none of my codes worked -- didn't catch on to the opposite shift direction! :-)Shibboleth - Christopher Columbus - 1492

Riiight .. as I edited my last post :))... ok, I officially suck at this :D
I was wondering if it has to do with the Shibboleth project and SAML (and was guessing that this was the first part somehow)... and so on but apparently it was much easier than that :P

Well, I guess it was a little stupid using "the oracle" instead of the GOG search function.
But I guess I will have a slight chance next time (if there is a next time).

Yes, there will be a next time. Just not right away. I'll need to refill my wallet first (and wait for an interesting promo :-) )

@Lifthrasil BTW I forgot to thank you! Even though I've been buying stuff from GOG for a few years, it was this thread that coaxed me out of hiding onto the forums -- I had lots of fun just trying to solve the clues :-)
