Aignur: Well the thing with abandonware is that (assuming you're using a responsible site, with an appropriately narrow definition of abandonware) it's games you can't get anywhere else, and with a legal status that is often ambiguous or unknown. And responsible sites will never offer games if their copyright is being actively defended by someone.

In the case of Dune 2000, it's a pretty safe bet that it's copyright will never be defended by Westwood. Dune 2000 is more or less a mod of C&C: Red Alert, and that's been made publicly available, for free, by Westwood.
Ive been on Abandonware sites where they were hosting Games like the full version of Quake and its expansions! . Giving them away for free. They obviously dident know the true definition of Abandonware.

There is no true definition, nor is there any definition that makes it legal. There are, however, a number of sites that use very narrow and strict definitions, in order to make sure that the sites are only used for their intended purpose - which is to preserve games that might otherwise be lost to ambiguous or unknown copyright status.

It is my personal opinion that using a site with a very clear and narrow definition of abandonware is more responsible than using one without a clear definition, and certainly more responsible than say, piracy. But make no mistake - abandonware is still not legal.

Though as I see it, the legality issue has to do with copyright laws being outdated and generally written with books in mind. I would argue that since games have a considerably shorter lifespan than books, the time it takes for them to enter public domain should also be shorter.

I know little more of protocols than that games like Doom, Doom ][, Heretic, Warcraft II, etc., use IPX, which MS decided to no longer allow under Vista and W7. I already own the games on CD, but once my older machines die, I might as well use the CDs for coasters. The wife and kids and I are not big fans of any of those in single player mode.

If GOG were to figure out some way for those to communicate over TCP/IP, or created some program to fake the protocol, I'd be all over it!

I'd recommend ZDaemon or Skulltag. I've only used ZDaemon of those, but they should have basically the same features - anyway, they're multiplayer server browsers that support all the Doom engine games, by running them through a slightly modified versio of the ZDoom port using TCP/IP.
Quake 1 has nQuake, which uses the QuakeWorld netcode with the TCP/IP protocol (making it 100% compatible with all the classic QuakeWorld clients and servers), it has some graphics "enhancements" that are slightly hard to turn off, but with a couple of lines into the console you can get the game to look almost exactly like the classic software rendered quake - even though it's running through OpenGL.

Aignur: Can easily be found on abandonware sites.
On many torrent sites as well, obviously. But I want a hassle-free and legal copy of these good ol' games. Not to mention one that actually works on today's OSs.

Legal may be hard to come by - hence the existance of Abandonware sites. Dune 2000 is hassle-free and works on today's operating systems though. At least it works on Win7.
My wishlist:

APB
California Games
Chris Sawyer's Locomotion
Hard Drivin'
Interstate '82
Life & Death
Life & Death II: The Brain
Star Control Trilogy
Starflight
Starflight II
Test Drive (the early few games)
The Shivah
Transport Tycoon Deluxe
Wasteland
Zany Golf

I was JUST about to call troll when I realized that there's also some old arcade game of 1989 by the name. I suppose you're referring to that?
A game I would nearly KILL to find on GOG would have to be Hellbender.

Homeworld 2 is very hard to find in stores and it's a legend of the genre. It belongs on GOG!
Yes, the 1989 arcade game, not the new released APB.

-Rollercoaster Tycoon
-Rayman
-Ultima series

For these above I would love GoG forever almost unconditionally.
Syndicate, Syndicate, and Syndicate. Did I also mention Syndicate?
