DeadlyRamon: World of Aden: Thunderscape
Mentalepsy: YES.
Thunderscape was sadly overlooked, and although it's not really on par with games like World of Xeen, it was still a lot of fun and remains a sentimental favorite of mine. Fantastic soundtrack, too. One of my personal most-wanted, but scarcely anyone seems to remember it nowadays, or care.
I've had trouble getting it to work in Dosbox. I'd pay for a hassle-free copy.
As would I! I even have the official guide, written by Peter Olafson, which is chock-full of humor and thus much more than a mere mechanical walkthrough. That would be an essential extra file should GOG ever acquire the rights.
I liked how you could recruit as party members owl-like and lizardman creatures, and get a load of the voice talent! I can't forget meeting an NPC with a rhinoceros head who sounded like Winston Churchill on barbiturates!
It did indeed have an interesting techno-influenced soundtrack, which was strangely appropriate for this more cyberpunk-tinged computer fantasy role-playing game, and the intro (about the magic barrier that had broken and had to be re-enabled before the horde of demons could fully cross through) was something I didn't mind watching in its entirety repeatedly, unlike most other titles' introductory cinematics (see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecMTfu1K-jE for the entire intro).
A pity it didn't catch on and inspire numerous sequels to flesh out its fascinating universe, but on the other hand that means less effort on the part of GOG to dust it off and refurbish it for modern consumption. I do hope that at least one of its staff has crossed paths with this elusive title; I've no doubt his experience would be a positive one.
