Sorry to make a new thread for this, I know there are off topic threads where it belongs, but I tried to find them and can't.

I just read this article and it restored a bit of my faith in humanity. I thought it might do the same for others, so wanted to share it.

If you really have a problem with big corporations, the actions in that article are what is needed to change things.

People helping people/small business....what's not to get? :\

People helping a failing business with a poor business model by buying more clutter into their homes? Sounds like a great plan.

I thought you yanks were in general opposed to taxpayers bailing out unsuccessful businesses?

Helping out small businesses keeps the money in the community and it gets funneled locally to other people/businesses......

The money ends up either in the pocket of the store owner or in the pocket of the supplier.
In the former case, you're taking money from the.... community? and putting it into the... community?
In the latter you are outright taking it out of the 'community' and giving it to your apparently vilified large national company.

Usually the large national chains and big box stores use foreign(slave sometimes) labor(to make their products) and some of the money they make gets sent overseas to pay for said products. With small stores the money gets circulated within the community or country and promotes financial growth here.

Oh shit yeah, I forgot that the small local electronics store makes their own products on a workbench in the back room. Silly me.

Most small stores(not chain dollar stores which also buy overseas in many cases) also try to promote a fair wage/working conditions(which some big box stores do not do as well in various areas) and try to buy their products that they sell from US based suppliers.

I guess what i'm trying to do here is illustrate the reasons why it's good to buy in small stores over SOME big chains, and why supporting the store in the news article in Monsta's post is a good thing(usually) & how it could possibly renew someone's faith in humanity a bit.

That's a sweeping statement there buddy. Do you have any facts to back up your big evil conglomerate vs virtuous SMEs argument?

You see - when I first read the thread and the article it was quite evident to me that the OP had been charmed by this little, heart-warming, emotive story. From a practical perspective, it is obviously complete bullshit. Hence I challenged the OP to consider that by removing the emotional element.
Then you jump in, stating the obvious as you normally do. Did you honestly, genuinely believe that I didn't take what you said in post 6 into account for myself already?
You then proceed to post a series of bland statements that you're unable to back up, evidently fuelled by your dislike for your national success stories which seems to be oh so common in the US for some reason.
It is evident that you have no grasp of economic theory and no higher education to speak of. Why do you insist on adamantly voicing your personal opinions in every discussion that you participate in? Opinions that you are unable to back up with a shard of reason?
