An aside: Anyone else think we should make a "general" thread(Like we have for sales/gifting/game requests/etc) for talking about how big our game collections are/how bad our game buying habits are? Just a thought, as this topic seems to come up(Usually via a new thread) every few weeks or so anyways.
+1 to the guy above who observed that time is more valuable than money (assuming you aren't too broke to be able to afford your purchases). I buy cheap games mostly out of habit nowadays; I can afford the cost, but have nowhere near the time needed to even make a dent in the backlog, which is actually growing faster than I can whittle it down even though I've bought 95 percent of the games I'm actually interested in at this point. Which brings me to another observation - I'd guess that a lot of folks who are congratulating themselves on restraining their purchases recently are like me: this is happening only because they've bought damn near everything there is to buy, and what remains are only very new releases that are still in the 30-60 dollar range. Ah well, such is life.
Wii U ($350) plus one game ($50) = buyers remorse

$400 will buy just about every onsale Steam game you could want, so dont feel bad. Its the best gaming bargain in the universe.

Hawk52: Am I alone with this or are there anyone else mentally damaged struggling too?
This is essentially the psychological phenomenon these sales are hoping to play on. No, you are not alone. The digital nature of the sales makes you rarely see the "clutter" which is good and bad. It's good in that the games don't "own" you as other items tend to, you don't have to carry them as you move or sacrifice living space as you collect them.

Still, you're dumping resources into them.

Now, you can look it it like "what else might I dump resources into" and realize that these games are probably a cheap habit. Or you can decide that they don't fulfill you in any real way and change your behavior (hard work).

Either way, I suggest you work on finding other ways to generate that positive rush buying something gives you, if only because it's ephemeral and hard to maintain.

I don't know what makes you "tick" so I don't have anything more specific to suggest.
Exactly like Mentalepsy, over the last few months, I've bought about 30 games during On Sale prices. Now I have about 69 games installed on my PC and I have only played about 20 of them. Yesterday, I uninstalled 14 just to make my desktop look less cluttered.

I in no way have a problem like this.

Other than indie bundles, and great sales, and pay what you want deals, no problem here....

I'm drowning under games, help me!
I do have this problem. I am a bargain shopper and when I see a game I may like, and on a good SALE!, I often buy it.I just hate buying a game and then seeing it at 75% of the price I just paid for it.
I have to admit, I'm afflicted with this disease. With the Steam Autumn Sale drawing to a close I'm finally breathing on my own. Anxiety began to manifest inside me as early as Thursday evening knowing that in a couple of hours Steam will be opening the floodgates and it did. I managed to snatched Skyrim together with Dawnguard and its silly house add-on and also got Torchlight 2 in the process. Torchlight 2 it seems have captivated my attention more than Skyrim because who wouldn't like blasting everything that moves?

Hawk52: For me, I think it's related to my depression issues. When I have money, I just...can't stop looking at things to buy and buying them. It used to be I'd use Ebay but that had the advantages of cool down and shipment time. Buying things gives me a temporary happiness boost followed by the inevitable "why did I buy that?" crash. Even if I don't buy anything; I think about it all the time I'm on Steam. It's like a nagging voice in the back of my brain.

These Holiday deals are like crack to me. So many deals, and I can justify any purchase by going "It's a STEAL at 50% off!" It even extends to gifting people stuff. I'll just buy people gifts just for the sake of doing so. Not because it makes them happy so much as the very act of purchasing makes me feel good.

Am I alone with this or are there anyone else mentally damaged struggling too?
I have same problem :D
Buying Inversion today, even on sale at $7, was borderline.

Nicole28: Talking about buying games, does anyone know if GOG will hold their usual catalog wide Christmas sale, like they did last year or are they changing their minds about it this year?
Go away!
You're speaking of rope in the house of the hangman!
Here are people with issues asking for help and you're mentioning future promos... you bad!

Now to the subject.
I exclusively buy on GOG but since GOG has so many irresistible promos I gathered a large backlog. :( I simply can't resist to the promos. And the sad thing is I did not played 5% of what I bought. I simply have no time and for some games I don't even have a suitable machine to play them.

My other issue is about XBOX360 games. Since I've got the xbox I can't stop buying retail games on promos. When I see a 50% discount I simply can't resist if the game is reviewed above average or I'm even mildly interested in it. I fell like I'd like to collect them all.
