I have this problem when a game is on sale i can't help but buy it
I wouldn't say I was obsessive, but I was in the habit of buying far too many games at sale prices. I've successfully scaled that back considerably these past six months. I'm trying hard to stop buying so many maybe-somedays just because they're cheap and marginally interesting. I feel much better for having reigned myself in.

I've put about a 90% freeze on my game purchases. Right now I'm only buying games that I know I want to play now.

I think I've bought more than 90 games in the last 6 months. A lot more than the past two years. It was because of Steam summer sale (and some regular sales) and GOG offfers.
Well, at least it was cheaper than 4 or 5 games at release date....
Aaaand it's way cheaper than manga (prices almost never drop).

Talking about buying games, does anyone know if GOG will hold their usual catalog wide Christmas sale, like they did last year or are they changing their minds about it this year?

Of course, it isn't a life or death matter, but I'm rather curious to know if I can.
oh look 33% off. nice. click purchase.

Meh, not enough for me. It has to be 50% off at least, and under 10€ XD.

it should be 50% off, but those are the latest games. And then the next day they are 50%, like Dishonored. ;(
I don't have a problem. I can stop any time I want. Yep.
I collect video games like baseball cards. My steam and GOG catalogs reflect this{533 and 127}. My wife likes to complain that I spend all of my money on games. I shop all month digital at the the start of the month then all local pawn shops and second hand stores and then target for the clearances and round the month off with something cheap at gamersgate.
This was a problem for me but it's slowing getting under control. I just had to realize that it doesn't (shouldn't) mean anything if a game is on an awesome promo. The real currency is time. And that is more limited than my money.

I got 3 games for 1 euro each at the Ubisoft promo earlier this year. Not only I did not play them, I didn't even install them, and not only that but I didn't even open the Uplay client since that promo. Yeah I payed close to nothing for them, but the reality is I will probably never play those games. I don't have time for them. Paying close to nothing is irrelevant when you don't have the "time currency". It doesn't help that those are not in my favorite genres.

So far I've been able to say NO to some great promos, like that Prototype pack which I've caught when it was $7.49 even, and quite a few others.

Starting next year I have a plan that should drastically limit stupid impulse buying. It revolves more around time and less around money.

Main question you have to ask yourself is "Will I play this game by the time the next big promo hits?". If the answer is NO then there is no good reason to buy it.

I have nothing to add to this really, just want to say yes, +1 and this is especially important for people on a tight budget.
I know my weakness and i really have to try and fight it. Im doing really good this year. So far i only bought.

Knight of the Old Republic 2 = $2.50
Alpha Prime = $1.25
Silverfall Complete = $3.75

I really went overboard last year and i learned my lesson. You have to resist, it can be done, its not futile.
IM TOTALLY OVER IT. I haven't bought a single game these steam sales.

I have bought games on Steam and literally never played them. Steam just makes me think I'm saving so much money, when I really don't want what I'm buying.
