keeveek: It was definitely more attractive than masturbation, and access to other sources of dopamine was limited, compared to today.

There is a reason why sexual problems get more and more common these days and occure earlier than any time before. Recent studies show, that internet porn may be the prime cause.

Believe it or not, I don't give a damn ;P Btw. this internet porn subject may seem to be offtopic or irrelevant, but it's connected.
avatar
Fomalhaut30: You forget the fact that people are simply more open nowadays about their problems. People are more willing to study it and talk about it. A guy in previous generations admitting that he can't get it up? A bit more unthinkable than it is now.

There may be correlation, but correlation does not equal causation. There's other factors that could influence sexual dysfunction including diet, stress, drugs, etc. All things that are doing a number on us (diet being absolute garbage, people under far too much stress, the plethora of drugs - both legal and not - that people take).
There's also the fact that "problems" we have today in regards to sex weren't commonly called problems in ages past. We're pretty quick to demonize and try to "fix" people today. You can see that with fetishes and sexual issues. If you did have them, like you said, they tended to keep quiet about them.

Unrelated to that, I've honestly considered calling my bank and putting some type of hold on my account so that when I use it, I have to verify my purchase with them. That little bit of extra trouble to keep me from impulse buying. When games are so cheap these days, it's almost as if it doesn't count. "Oh, it's only three dollars!", but after several of those purchases they add up *fast*.
avatar
Antimateria: And You have all those gaming machines? That's some ball of cords.
avatar
GameRager: True, but I am happy/lucky to have them given my limited income(Most were bought for me by relatives/friends, for which I owe them my thanks.).
I just have PC and PS2 (which I haven't touched in long time and if I finally find my copy of FFXII, I'll probably play it with an emulator).

I would have liked to play Zeldas, Red dead redemption, Metal gear solid 4 and other console games but you know.. I don't have those but at least I got plenty in PC. =)

keeveek: Oh, I've found the lecture:

Interesting thing, I recommend listening to that.

keeveek: Yes. But studies show, that men who drop watching porn for more than few months, vastly improve their sexual life. Watch the vid.
Sorry, I simply don't give a shit to watch a 16 minute video about a topic that has no real relevance to my life whatsoever.

YOU LIAR!!!

btw. I like the approach "I know better than you, but if you have proves / research showing otherwise, I won't give a fuck about acknowledging them" :P No hard feelings, it's just funny.

keeveek: Funny or not, easy access to free internet porn deviates sexual drive in most adults. It causes tons of problems, we already have many 25-30 year old impotents.
There isn't enough porn on the internet ....

avatar
keeveek: Mostly, because for your brain, having sex with the same woman is less attractive than watching 10 porn clips in 20 minutes with different woman, different positions, etc etc.
Personally, I disagree. Depends on them woman, of course. But my rule of thumb is, if I wouldn't watch a porn with her in it, I don't sleep with her.

*note to self: Date porn stars.

What research? What studies? What's that guy's credentials? I see no mention of a doctor appelation. What event is that thing part of? Cite published, peer-reviewed studies. Not simply linking to someone on Youtube as your proof.

Watch the lecture! :P I know you're not liking videos as a form of argument, but it's XXIst century now, and video lectures are way better forms of presentation than plain text. :P

You know, there is a thing called Internet. I gave you the most accessible source of information. You can use magic thingy called google to find more and more, and actual scientific reasearch this guy is quoting.

Finding out what TED is, takes 30 seconds to a monkey. No reason to create a post and demand an answer, when you may find it yourself in less than a minute.

He is a psychologist and biologist who is studying effects of porn for over a decade now, btw.

So...you disapprove of my response, but then tell me to go look it up myself. Nice.

You're the one positing that internet porn is responsible for sexual dysfunction. The onus of supplying proof for said theory falls on you. Not on me to look up your argument for you.

And again, what are his credentials? What has he published in a peer-reviewed setting?

Regardless of whatever you respond with, I won't be responding further on this topic as, again, it is completely irrelevant to my life and interests. Cheers.

Annnnd bought Kingdoms of Amalur Complete.
In past months, I did buy what for me as casual gamer felt like an outrageous quantity of games here on GoG, but nah, I never had a need to just go and buy something. I bought what I know I am or will be potentially interested in, if it felt like a good deal.

That way when I get an itch, I have a good backlog (about 40 games) to choose from.
avatar
zomgieee: these games won't buy themselves ....
I am quoting this when the Christmas GOG sales hit

As I've said, I am not interesting in talking with a person who's only statement is "I know better and your sources are unreliable even though I haven't even skimmed through them. Also, I am so wise I will use ad hominem arguments against your sources, to discredit the lecturer, not the information he provides. Because it's classy Also, even if your source is unreliable, I don't feel any need to provide any evidence proving the contrary, because discrediting your source automatically proves my point"

Have a nice day.

We all have vices.

Most important thing is being happy and not going too overboard.

:)
Not to get too personal but my own mental issues have causes buying sprees for sure. Mostly that was physical goods though, something to hold in my hand to make me feel happy.

Anyway, when normal I still buy a ton of shooters and Western RPGs. I love those genres though, they are 90% of what I play and I will get around to all of them eventually. I wait for sales on the lesser ones, like just finally buying Reckoning for $10. I think that is normal.

What is not normal is buying things you will likely never play and have no real interest in. I only do that when not in my right mind.

I'm not disagreeing on the issue (and I remember reading something about this in the Time I think...). I'm just saying that my immature nature and addiction hookers can not be saturate by porn alone ;-).

Personally, I think this is a good development. Just like homosexuality is taking away a lot of the competition (and lets be honest, straight guys could never compete with homosexuals) this might thin the field even more.

(slightly tongue in cheek ;-P)
