wormholewizards: As far as i know GMT isn't that popular in USA / Canada right?
Yeah, GMT is more of a European thing. And I wanted the Witcher promotion too....and google taught me what I needed to know and I got it. :D

My only issue is that the $5.99 contest showed up PAST 3 am CST (I went to bed at 3am but checked GOG before hitting the hay) and codes were given away by 10 am CST. I much prefer when they have 24hr things. I know this was a complaint on forums that people in South America had as well.

orcishgamer: Most people think the difference doesn't matter to them, but in reality it matters a great deal to computers, all those little devices in your pocket, home, and at work don't work right without close to exact time. Servers typically synch to a time server that reads from an atomic clock for this reason (the quartz in the computers aren't exact enough).

All those .NET framwork and Java updates, yeah a good portion of those are simply because some po-dunk nowhere place changed how when they shift for daylight savings time or something like that, so updated lists of how to translate times get pushed out all over the world.
Aye I did write that myself just two posts later to clarify (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/not_a_happy_camper/post35). I was only referring to imprecise purposes - which in fact covers the purpose mentioned in the OP. :) Sure GMT's deprecated, but hey I still use %s in python for string formatting so deprecated's just how I roll. :P

Snickersnack: I wish this was true in practice. Also, get rid of that stupid daylight savings time. :(
Yes I agree , I hate daylight savings it really sucks ;)
Yep, because it's proven for a loooong time that daylight saving time saves jackshit, and even it's harmful for people - desynchronising your biological clock every six months is bad for ya.

But tell that to the EU (haven't they forced Lithuania into switching time this year?) and stupid country governors.

AFAIK switching time was invented in USSR to save some energy. It's ironic to see how modern country still help this communist idea to persist.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_Savings
Modern DST was first proposed by the New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson, whose shift-work job gave him leisure time to collect insects, and led him to value after-hours daylight.[8] In 1895 he presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two-hour daylight-saving shift,[26] and after considerable interest was expressed in Christchurch, New Zealand he followed up in an 1898 paper.
...
Starting on 30 April 1916, Germany and its World War I allies were the first to use DST (German: Sommerzeit) as a way to conserve coal during wartime. Britain, most of its allies, and many European neutrals soon followed suit. Russia and a few other countries waited until the next year and the United States adopted it in 1918. Since then, the world has seen many enactments, adjustments, and repeals.

Well I was wrong for the entire time. Thanks, never too much knowledge :-) So we have daylight saving time because some dude wanted to collect insects more frequently. Great :P

There was some talk of them getting rid of BST (British Summer Time) here a while ago but it went away in a cloud of tabloid hysteria
If it saves any money, though I think it will be staying - I don't know if it's happening all over the country but my council at least are turning off non-essential street lights, including every other light in residential areas - seems a bit desperate!
It depends on a climate, how high above the sea you live etc etc.

For example, in Poland, daylight saving time makes just one thing to happen - electricity "traffic" hours are moved by one hour. And that's it.

Also, every year is different so you can't really say when electricity usage drops it's because of DST for sure.

One thing I am sure, if you are the man who's waking up the same hours every day, changing time by one hour is not healthy for you.

Also, home usage of electricity is just a small percentage of use in general. Most of usage comes from facilities, and it doesn't matter if you have DST or not, they run the same amount of hours for whole year.

SimonG: Was there already an "ignorant American" joke? No? Yeah, probably to easy anyway...

Oh man...

1. This was a joke. Because you fell into a stereotype pitfall as big as Texas. Without going into detail how it is possible to not know GMT, you just displayed stereotypical American behaviour. Hence, my joke.

2. Your lack of humor and inability to take a silly joke on your expense is another American stereotype.

3. I know a lot about the US and I really like your country for a lot of reasons. I studied your history, political system, etc. And I'm an avid fan of NPR! Especially the current GOP race is my favourite pastime atm. And I know quite a lot of Americans. But I generally meet them in other countries, so they are not your usual American. Or do you know the president of Ubikbikibikistan? *zing*

The next time I say "Maybe i'm going to Poland next summer", or whatnot, feel free to make a stupid joke. But please, for the internets sake, get a sense of humor!

What's next? You want to complain about them Mexicans taking your jobs? About those jews in Wall Street? How France would be speaking german without you? How you kicked our ass in WW2? How Fox is defending the "job creators" against the liberal main stream media?

Edit: Well, I never said I was good at english....

Stereotypes? Simon says, let's play.

One weird thing about Germans is they never reciprocate polite laughter. I've traveled a lot around the world and this is a weird phenomenon that occurs ONLY in Germany. Example, I've screwed up on wrong currencies before. I always polite chuckle to show it was an honest mistake and the shopkeeper always joins in. This is there non-verbal cue to let me know "it's no big deal so don't sweat it." Everywhere I've gone, people always reciprocate polite laughter...except Germans.

This is the reason GERMANY was picked as the least funny country in the world in the South Park episode...and now a German wants to talk about a sense of humour..."awkward".

And a German talking about stereotypes and mentioning WWII (Not WW2). Really? You want to talk about pitfalls...but that's hitting below the belt.

GMT is a EUROPEAN thing and not taught in schools in North America. I almost made the same mistake myself. The GOG Press Releases are also NOT well written and would fail plain language tests so I'm not surprised mistakes were made. So ease off on JeCy, he made a mistake and lost out on a great deal. Lesson learned. No need to be a jerk.

No it's a worldwide thing America just hates that washington didn't get the prime meridian all those years ago I was serious about the fact you refused to use it until you had no choice anymore.

The Witcher 2 will not be 50% off, GOG said 40% off is the best deal we are going to get.
