Would any one else want a non dosbox version download of GoG games? I have my own dosbox with my settings just the way i like and want to run dos games through that but i have a bunch of extras that make the old games run with its own dosbox. I know i can delete the internal dosbox but sometimes i have a hard time finding the .exe.
I am probably in the minority on this but i hate setting my games individually and would like to throw my gog game in my dosbox c:\ mount and play.
Just would like some feedback on this notion.

Can't you just take the actual game files out and use your own dosbox as you like?

Or not execute the gog versions, but use your own and directing to where the game is? or something like this.

It is a little pointless having two versions of each game, when the main files needed is the same, and the majority of people prefer to have it "out of the box". Also, it is the best way for gog to make sure it is playable on most systems, which they try to guarantee.

I recall a post in a thread that described how to install GOG games with your own DosBox, but - sigh - with the current forum search function it's practically impossible to find it.

I'll try to find it and get back to you if I secceed, but your best shot is for that person to notice your thread and respond to you.

Another issue is when the original CD is required, remember that old drm lol, so running the exe strait from dosbox won't work and there isn't an iso atleast from what i can find, in the folder. The Gog Dosbox is setup to run the nocd crack but it is taking me. And yes the .exe is usually in the folder but i would like it so i don't have to filter out all the gog stuff and just have the flat game. Thow the folder in my Dosbox set it up and run. i mentioned this in my post. there wouldn't be two versions of the game there would be another option in the downloads to have -dosbox like in the advanced settings or something or with dosbox. i feel it weird when having my own dosbox and each dos game i buy here putting it on again.

Oh for the love of i am an idiot!!! just paste my config for my own dosbox into there and bam all my setting instantly wow now i feel dumb.

Except there may be times when GOG tweaked settings specifically for a particular game and then you'd overwrite those changes.

Honestly, for the small amount of space taken up by the redundant DOSBox installs per game, why even bother with it when you can have something that just works out of the box without any screwing around usually?

GOG's Windows installers can be extracted with or [url=http://constexpr.org/innoextract/]innoextract; this gives all the files so there is no need for a manual download option. GOG includes a CD image when needed, usually with a .gog or .dat extension. The GOG .conf files give the mounting commands needed (you may need to adjust the path to the image if its relative location is mounted differently in your own DOSBox install).

One of the big values of gog is the easy-run experience. You know the old game is just going to work.

So I think the way things are done is really nice.

As for supporting our-own-dosbox, I'd like that as well, like an easy way to identify just the game files as opposed to the launcher and included dosbox. Ie, maybe gamedir/doscontent for the game, and gamedir/runtime for dosbox and such. Or something along those lines.

I'd actually be willing to pay like 50% more for something like this, but I doubt most others would. I'm okay with the status quo.
