In fact, many of these games were conspicuously absent from the Fall and Winter Fall sales.

Floydinizer: I'm not in a good position to enjoy a christmas sale this year, but I understand the OP.
I DO however miss some kind of christmas decoration around the website, especially since they changed to a more simplistic layout.
Even a little mistletoe or some candycanes in a corner would put a smile on my face.
The depression-gray is kind of a trademark by now, you wouldn't want to taint it with signs of fun and happiness.

undeadcow: GOG has had a really awkward Fall/Winter sale slate with too early sales that are too close together then nothing. Maybe their sales figures show otherwise but the timing seems really dull. The Square Enix deal is great but not as epic as typical seasonal sales. Not that it stopped me from buying.
That's all well and good for your northern hemisphereans but those sales occurred during Spring/Summer here in Australia. How could I purchase anything when I wasn't in the right season?!?!? :P

Many is certainly not most, though, as there were bundles for Hitman, Legacy of Kain, Thief and Tomb Raider and there were also flash sales for the Deus Ex games, Omikron and Startopia.

Klumpen0815: Maybe there'll be a "new year"-sale, who knows?
The hype will have died down by then.
Just gonna drop in and say that I'm one of the people who was anticipating a christmas sale on here and held off on spending much for that very reason. Certainly not going to hold it against GOG, still a fantastic service, but it does mean that other vendors are likely to be getting my money over the coming weeks when it could have been you guys.
GOG not having a Christmas sale makes no sense. I know GOG just had a massive sale but GOG not having a massive sale yesterday and the day before is like GOG letting Steam take some of their money... And people expect Christmas sales. Not living up to people's expectations can result in negative consequences if you are a business.

I still think they should have had this sale for the holidays and not that early due to people wanting to spend money they got from gifts or whatever. but I still think GOG should have not did it that early but what is done is done and hopefully next year they put it right on the dot ;)
I think once upon a time, GOG had a sale that ran at the same time as the Steam one. Ever since then, the christmas GOG sales have happened before the Steam sales begin. While I understand your point, I think they prefer to cash in before Steam's sale. A small flash sale doesn't seem like a bad idea though, but I really don't know what goes behind coordinating a sale of that sort. Maybe they don't think it's worth it, maybe they hadn't thought about it until you pointed it out.
Fall and Winter sales were very closed each other. A Xmas sale is maybe too much, no ?
Not bothered by it at all. At the risk of posting an unpopular reply, My sister and I each bought lots of new old titles and we're still downloading from the last sale.

That's where I'm at. For all we know (and we don't), this might be an attempt to gather some numbers to compare figures from sales before the holiday (this year) to sales that spanned over the holiday (some other years?). And from there, they can tweak things for next year. It may turn out that a pre-holiday and pre-Steam sale gives better results. Or it may not - they don't exactly share that info with us so it's all speculation and anecdotes.

But yeah, for this year piling a third big sale on top of the other two that were already so close to each in both scope and calendar-wise... to me, it would have been sales fatigue. As it was, I all-but-ignored that 2nd Holiday sale.

Klumpen0815: I'm puzzled too. Many people will have more money available now than the rest of the year and I think making the winter sale now would have been clever.
Maybe there'll be a "new year"-sale, who knows?

gibbeynator: No more sales, please. They had a two-week sale that butted up against ANOTHER two-week sale, we're all saled out.
Give the sales a rest, so we can finally get some more Lucasarts games here.
It´s hard to please everybody---> I´ve got the feeling that most users around are quite happy that there isn´t another GIANT sale right now...

...anyways, those were hoping for more releases. Now we´ve got nothing... :(
(except that Square-Promo!)
I keep thinking most everyone who wants stuff has gotten it already through the past two sales.

Heh, I like that. (I'm also a fan of Gabe memes even though I don't like Steam's monopoly.)
