There aren't really issues with location. The problem is GOG's offices are located in a place that apparently have a high rate of credit card fraud or something like that. So for some people Paypal and banks will require a confirmation. If you're still having trouble, usually some members are nice enough to make the purchase for others, and then be paid back at a later date.

I was told by the guy that called ( fraud protection) that I would have to call my bank and authorize the purchase. That is just not going to happen. I will not go thru all that just to purchase a game.

It's not so much GOG's offices in Poland but rather that payment processing goes through Cyprus which causes some banks in the US to issue red flags. As far as I know, Cyprus makes it really easy to set up financial transactions (read cheap) which makes it easy for smaller companies ... and less legitimate ventures.

Nearly. GOG is registered in Cyprus but AFAIK the payment processing is done in the UK.

I think it is Cyprus part that gives companies pause ... or the fact that it is a polish companies registered in Cyprus with processing in the UK :P Somebody else just said they were having problems too - though paypal worked for them - it may be possible there is some temporary problem on GOG's end (or the Bank's?)

Another person was having problems with his card just now and paid using his card through paypal.

Not creating an account but selecting the paypal option and from there selecting "Pay with a debit or credit card, or Bill Me Later"

In my own experience, a transaction that would be otherwise blocked, ends up still blocked when trying to use a card directly through Paypal.

Though my situation was somewhat different, in that I was using one of those US only Visa gift cards and attempting to circumvent such restriction via Paypal.

In any event, contacting the bank should clear things up in the cast at hand, but it does not seem the OP wishes to go through that.

What a strange person... So to condense this:

I had trouble buying a game on GOG. I know it's because my bank has a problem with GOG's geographic location and that I can easily correct this problem by contacting my bank and authorizing it, but I don't want to go to that much "trouble." That said, I *am* going to the trouble off going onto the forums and complaining about it, but don't bother trying to help me because I don't really want help. I just want to tell you that I'm not buying something. Nyah, nyah!


There was someone just the other day posting on the forums with the same attitude regarding making a small adjustment to a game he purchased to get it to run properly. People kept trying to help him, but he really just wanted to come to the forums to complain because the game didn't work "out of the box" and that he wasn't going to go to the "trouble" to make any adjustments to make it work. "Blah, blah, Steam isn't like this, blah blah."

For some time i have had problems paying with PayPal.
Every 2nd - 3rd transaction was denied.
After i ask them why they told me about fraud and random checking.
Nonsense! After i transfered money before purchasing the problems
stopped....oh, and there was never a problem for PP getting my money.

My credit union card won't work here, but my bank card works just fine. Never tried Pay Pal.

I can understand the idea that sometimes when you want something, you want it then and there with no "hassles." But yeah, I agree that being presented with a solution and then saying "Nope, not going to do that" kinda takes away the right to complain about it.

And if Fraud Protection called and asked you about it, what happened there? Couldn't you have "cleared it up" at that point and had them authorize the purchase? Just asking out of curiosity, not trying to be snippy.

fraud protection cannot process transactions.

I'm not sure you'd have to do it every time, it should be a case of telling them that GOG's cool and that would be it.

It just happened to me :/ I tried to buy MOO 1+2 for a giveaway, and the payment didn't go through...
