no new release today?

My guess is there won't be any new releases this year anymore. The big holiday sale compensates for it, it's kind of an announcement that the releases are over and some vacation is due. ;)

I don't mind a break in new releases, gives me time to focus on the sale.

And there's no sense in releasing games during Christmas promo.

If they won't include game in the promo, they probably won't sell much, because everyone will think "nah, I'll grab it later, now I have to take advantege of the sale"

And there's no sense in releasing game and put in on sale too, because this way people who would buy it for the full price, will grab it for half of it.

Exactly, I'm kind of surprised Ultima VII and Gothic 3 were released so close to the sale. Then again, that might be exactly why Gothic was released then, that game has a pretty poor reputation and sales for it are probably much higher than they'd normally be.
