Actually I am in GOG from when it was in beta... just I hardly ever wrote in the main page. I expected a different community to be honest.

Then I find it odd that you needed to ask your question as it is discussed around here on a weekly basis.

This is why I usually stay out of Steam threads. I know where I stand and I'm not going my mind. No one else is going to have their minds change either.

Although, some of the posts can get very interesting and thought provoking.

The problem with using GG is.. well, he's talking about games that utilize Steamworks.

Any game that uses Steamworks, no matter where/how you buy it and no matter who you buy it from, is tethered to Steam. This means if I go out and buy the box edition of Skyrim.. it's still going to force me to tether it to a Steam account. The same goes for if I buy Skyrim from GG or any other digital distributor.

In quite simple terms:
Buying Steamworks games when you have no internet.. is like filling the gas tank of your car.. when it doesn't have wheels.

without an internet connection - at least on demand - you're not gonna get far in PC gaming these days. i'm not just talking about Steam - which is absolutely dominating the PC market - but about new PC games in general. there are very few games released today that do NOT require some form of online activation or account;

- UbiSoft games need a Uplay account and in some cases a persistent internet connection.
- EA games require at least an online activation as part of the install process. the latest games require an Origin account (same as Steam, but EA-exclusive).
- Blizzard games require a Battle.net account. Diablo 3 will require a persistent connection as well.
- almost everyone else uses SteamWorks or another third-party DRM scheme such as Tages, SolidShield or SecuROM.

tl;dr: no PC gaming without internet access. it's no use lamenting or praising this. it is what it is. deal with it, or get a console. no online activation there. not this generation anyway.

Not really. For example, he could download from his Linux partition and then play under Windows without having to put his network drivers back.

I don't think everyone understood that OP has Linux and Windows and only Windows doesn't have an internet connection.
