Coelocanth: Which may end up being tantamount to shooting themselves in the foot. It seems an increasing amount of gamers are also starting to look at DLC as either 'cut content',
Fred_DM: i thought we were way past that now. seriously, that may have been the case early on in this generation, but not now. the kind of DLC that is produced for games like Castlevania, Mass Effect 2 and Fallout: New Vegas can hardly be considered "cut content".
Coelocanth: just not worth the price,
Fred_DM: depends on the DLC, obviously, but DLC in general seems to sell well enough. one thing is for certain: Bioware and Bethesda wouldn't be doing this much DLC (and high-quality DLC at that!) if it didn't sell.
Coelocanth: or as content that demonstrates the game is 'incomplete' at release.
Fred_DM: may be true for some games, but certainly not for Bethesda and Bioware games.
Coelocanth: And they're passing on DLC until they can get it all in a GotY or Ultimate edition.
Fred_DM: or maybe they're not and that's why we're not saying GotY editions of certain games...?
Coelocanth: If increasing numbers of gamers are waiting for sales, it may be an indicator that their prices are too high.
Fred_DM: yeah well, why would game prices suddenly be too high? they generally haven't increased, with the exception of a few regions/publisher/individual games, while production costs have shot through the roof in the last 10 or so years.
Guy, you sound like an advert for DLC :S I'd expect those word in a press release.
DLC, to me, has never been worth the price.. and I've alway, and always will, see it as cut content, or at the very least taking time away from the main game, especially with day 1 DLC.. that IS just a con.
