At the age of 29, i feel that no games tempt me anymore. When i was 5 i got my first gaming experience with the fabulous Atari's Home Pong console :) After that, i got the C64 wich really got me hooked on games. I played the c64 so much that i had to put the power adapter in freezer because of overheating hehe, oh i miss those days.
The first computer i got was a 386 with 33mhz and 4mb RAM, oh glory what a beast!! Playing games like ports of call, street rod, quest for glory, larry, space quest etc. etc. I could keep on for ever, there was so many good games back in those days. I could play the same game every day for months, and still enjoy it like it was the first time i played it. Games had much more charm back then, or so it feels now.
Games weren't so easy to get a hold of, so when i first got a new one i was in heaven. It didn't matter what genre it was, or if the graphics was good or bad. I could start up a game, and i was in another world, playing the game to the max, and enjoying every minute of it. Nothing could be missed, read every book, talk to everybody and look at every detail of the game.
The things that bothers me these days is that the games are to easy to get a hold of, and there are A LOT of them. I buy a bunch of games every month, both from GoG, Steam and retail games, i also have an XBox 360 wich i love to buy games for. I got 50 games on the 360 excluding all the arcade and games i bought on demand, and i have completed only 2 of them...
When i buy a game, for PC or the 360, i start it, play it for like 20-30 minutes, then i quit. I feel i get fed up to fast. I think the problem is that there is nothing "new" coming out, it's like i've seen it all before.
Now a days i feel it's all about graphics, gameplay isn't that important anymore. I guess that's why i'm a GoG addict :) They knew how to make good games in the good old days (80's to mid/late 90's).
I feel that i'm searching for the holy grail atm. I keep buying games, checking them out and hoping that i've hit the jackpot. The past years i've been trying the mmorpg market, buying allmost every title, hoping that i find a game that can entertain me for months. No luck so far though ;) I'm crossing my fingers that Interplay will release the Fallout online game though, since fallout 1 and 2 tops my top5 list over PC games, ever. Could be interesting.
Anyways.. Anyone else feel the same? You want to play a game, but you just can't find anything that keeps you entertained?
To end this, maybe some of you could recomend some good classic games that has good replayability? Something to keep me entertained for the next couple of weeks? Since i've started on my vecation, and the weather is crap i really need something to kill some time ;)
Cheers!

It sounds more like you don't play the right type of games than anything else.
Classics? If you can find a copy of Silent Service 1 or 2 that can keep you up for weeks.
Colonial Conquest v1.1 (though a PC version does not exist, try the Atari ST which is the best) still holds my record for game played most time in one sitting, at 3 days including toilet breaks.
Conflict, a Middle East Political Simulator is good too.
I play winSPMBT (there is a free version too) since 2002 though mostly PBEM now days.
Starflight.
Sensible Soccer, especially against other people.
Player Manager
Universal Military Simulator (the first one)
M1 Tank Platoon (countless campaigns)
B-17 Flying Fortress (it can take you a full night to play a single mission if you don't advance the time)
Alien Breed
GBA Two on Two (still my favourite basketball game)
F-16 Combat Pilot
Elite
and there are some new games well worth it, for example
Resident Evil 5 (the only RE game I like)
Rainbow Six Vegas
Ghost Recon (not GRAW)
Dead Space
Swat 4
Red Faction Guerrilla
Star Trek Birth of the Federation
New Star GP
Strike Fighters 2
Making History Gold
World War 2 Road to Victory.
etc

The beta beats the crap out of most of today's new games, so its bound to be a great game once its released.

DEAD HORSE SMACKDOWN!
No, but seriously, it's not like I don't feel the same (at a cursory glance at your post), but seriously, it's like every forum has to have something just like this here.
I mean get a blog dude. Or like a twitter or something.
It helped my frustrations.
Somewhat.
Okay not really.
If your problem is that you buy too many games that you do not play then the solution is simple:
Impose limits on yourself.
Either a cash limit or a time limit on how many games to buy within a specific time period.
or simple do not buy and new games until you finish the last.
Personaly I like having a ton of games I haven't played yet (I aquire any and all games that might interest me as soon as possible since I know that eventually I will get around to playing them wether it's 1yr 5yrs or 15+ yrs) it gets me through the times when there aren't any good games around so I can go back into my collection and wait it out.
The problem with nothing seeming "new" is a common problem for people who have experienced alot. There is almost never nothing "new"...only "new" to you and usually it's just variations on a theme.
There are no "holy grail" games and even the ones that come close will never be. It's just like trying to find the "perfect" woman. There is no such thing. Be happy that there are so many games at all and find something in all of them that you like.

Take a break.
Do something else.
Play different kinds of games (DS, Wii, Whatever..)
Instead of buying dozens of games in the sales, but one game at full price and stick at it.
Try Planescape Torment!
A lot of games get better after the first 30 minutes. That's kind of like reading the first 10 pages of a book and deciding it sucks and isn't worth reading
I really can relate to you. I have found that the majority of recent games I have purchased get boring after the first 5 hours for me. I find they just seem to repeat themselves after that. The one game that really exceeded my expectations recently was Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. I wasn't expecting much from it, I've completed a Metal Gear Solid game. Peace Walker is amazing though, it's so much more fun than the console entries. More streamlined and better overall design in my opinion. I have really been playing a lot more portable games recently, like the Golden Sun games and have been finding them just as good, if not better, than the home console games. They don't have any annoying padding and the pacing of them is generally much faster.
Put attention to your physical appearance. This is not only applicable for women but also for men. You both have to mind your looks while gaming. We have the common habit of looking smart and beautiful at work but at home with their games they do not mind about their appearance. If your appearance looks boring at home, you just want to go out and see other people. Although looks is just superficial, it is also important to keep your appearance at its best if you want to add spice to your gaming. Put an effort to always look good anywhere and anytime. It will also make you feel better if you look good and bring you high score
Share a laugh together. No matter how long you have been from a game, there is still room to make some jokes and laugh about something. There are still new things that you can find to enjoy with and you do not have to be serious all the time. Life could be so boring if you just worry about the necessities of life and no time to tease and laugh once in a while. Add spice to your gaming and learn to share a laugh once in a while.
Set a regular romantic date. Living around your games every day is not enough to strengthen your love for them. Most of the time you are busy running errands, working and worrying other things about the family and forgot to spend time with the games. Although family gatherings and attending school activities for your kids are good for the whole family, sharing time alone with the game is different. You both need to spend time with each other alone to add to your high score. Plan a romantic date at least once a month to keep your connection stronger. Put off dinner, don't go out to the movie or out dancing and add more happy memories that will bring you closer to the end boss.

Okay, to put one thing clear. It may seem from my post that all i do is gaming, wich is wrong ;) Games is something i like to do when i got some spare time, entertainment, just like watching a movie.
But i think my problem is that there are to many games these days, so many games i would like to try. I buy them, start playing, then something new comes out, so i have to buy that to, wich i then ofcourse have to try. It's an endless cycle :) I don't give the games enough time before i swich to another one. I will check out some of the games recomended earlier in this thread. Planescape: Torment looks very good.
I have this problem to some degree. Back in the day when I could not afford new games, (aka, grade school and high school) I would replay one over and over, then when I had enough money to get a new game (or got one as a gift) I was so excited to play something new that it was this amazing thing.
Now I can buy whatever I want, but only have a limited time to play it. I used to just flounder along never finishing any games (for about 5 years) and finally I imposed a limit that I can never play more than 3 games without finishing one. So I have to beat one of the 3 games before I can start a new game.
This has helped a lot, and I am able to enjoy a particular game to completion. The only problem I have is that my time is so limited, it can sometimes take forever to finish a game. (for example, fallout 3 took me 11 months to finish) so sometimes I feel like I have been playing a game for an eternity (because I have) and start dreaming about what the next game may be like before I finish the one that I am playing. This can sometimes make finishing the current game feel like a chore. (because I just want to get to play something new). I try to fight through those feelings because if I keep starting new games, I would more often than not probably never finish them. Sometimes it would have been so long since I went back to a save game that I was so lost and forgot all of the story that I would just start over wasting even more time.
I guess what I am trying to say, is that as we get older and our lives become more complicated, you actually may need to focus on different ways to still enjoy your hobby. I calculated how long it would take me to finish my current back log of games I want to play and I stopped counting at 20 years into the future and decided to just enjoy whatever game I chose to play today. ;-)

This happens to me from time to time - I get bored easily regardless of the game I pick. I usually end up buying a lot of games that I don't play and get a moral hangover for wasting money.
My solution that seemed to work very well for my last few "gamer's identity crisis" - stop playing. And I mean stop playing at all. Give yourself 2 weeks and don't play even if you feel you want to, because you will just get bored again. After 2 weeks I find playing a joyful experience once again :)
