I hate them and am glad GOG does not have them. I think I am reading someone's comments and then read some useless quote that adds nothing to the conversation. Thanks for wasting my time.

Hopefully we get something more useful than sigs. Like a more powerful forum search tool.

IAmSinistar: Thank GOG they don't have them. Atrocious signal-to-noise ratio on those things.

I'd rather have user blocking, so that I can entirely elide folks who never post things worth reading.
Post upvoted. 30% because I agree, 70% because of the proper use of the word 'elide'.

I double this!
I hadn't noticed there weren't sigs here, until reading this thread. Guess that shows how important they aren't.
Once they were all the rage, now they just inspire it. ;)
I don't mind, and even maybe prefer, short signatures. Two things though:

- They should be very short, one line usually.

- They should be clearly separated from the rest of the message, e.g. in italics, or different font, or something. Go to see imdb.com discussion forums about the wrong way to do signatures, there I quite often mistake the signatures as part of the message/reply, and see myself wondering what the heck his/her reply was supposed to mean. Only then it occurs to me "Oh, that was his signature, not the actual reply...". It is a bit hard to differentiate the signature from the rest of the message in IMDB forums.

Why would I want to use a signature in GOG? Mainly to advertise my Roland MT-32 music tracklist in Youtube. Newbies need to be aware of the wonderful world of classic MT-32 music. :) Similarly I might be interested to catch similar points of interest from other users.

But then, maybe if such "signature advertising" went overboard here (e.g. coming here constantly to puff their indie game with links and stuff), maybe my opinion will change...

People can already have a picture and short phrase under their name.

That's enough personalisation for anybody.

Azrael360: Please, no... That feature was tested a year ago, but it was removed after a week because it was useless and the overall response was negative.

Ashkaro: There actually are forum signatures, yet only 5 star users are able to see them. It is known.
This guy is a mad man, don't listen to him.
On some forums they tend to get...quite big. And without integrated spoiler tags...
And it's just extra data volume being squandered, so it's not needed, really. But it wouldn't be bad to have an option to just turn them off, or something.

Am inclined to believe him:)

Titanium: Signatures under posts warp the minds of our children and weaken the resolve of our allies. They are evil. That much is obvious to all, I hope.

Speaking of Godless Sodomites...
The Bear can't bear a forum full of pointless redundancy.

I'm thinking more about the opinionated bastards that witter on about nonsense. People like me, for example.
Ah, I see you're looking for a compliment ;-P

I am, inasmuch as "opinionated bastard" is complimentary. :)

I agree with this post. As long as they're properly moderated and they're clearly differentiated from being a signature and not part of the post, I see no reason to not have them. Like I said before: all that's needed is a little checkbox on your forum settings so that you can hide signatures completely if you don't want to see them.

If we can't have signatures, then maybe it's time someone made a thread where we can link to our YouTube channels, if we have them. If that won't happen, then just have a textbox in the forum profile settings so we can type in our YouTube channel username and display it somewhere on the postbit.
