Have you ever heard it? it's good, but just out of place here.
Yeah, I've heard it (Damn you mic spammers in-game) a lot, hate it probably because I hear it TOO MUCH.
Because cursing at other persons is different than playing a complicated form of pixellated tag.
I can't speak to what may happen on television. I haven't had TV in eleven years.

why not just say "immaturity is a bannable offense." because quite clearly, you can curse for a number of reasons, because you're shocked, because you're impressed.. etc.. but cursing at someone over a video game, that's ridiculous, so is banning over cursing in an M rated game.

sex is out of the question too
did anyone ever see the debate on fox news about the mass effect "sex scandal"
they had this woman on (who admitted to having never played the game, but was apparently an expert) throwing out crap like "full frontal, gratuitous nudity," and then they showed the clip and it had the profile of a blue alien butt
i laughed so hard
but on the inside i was dying a little from the stupidity of it all
Before I post, here is my little disclaimer. I am mature and I do not swear, not in games, not on forums, not in real life.
1. With that said, I will say I rather play in a server where there are at least some standards and not a free-for-all and people can do and say whatever they want with impunity.
2. If you do not like servers that do not allow swearing I might suggest two things. First, go locate a another server that fits who you are. Second, pay for your own server and then you get to set the rules.
3. Just because a server in question did not allow swearing it was assumed it was Christian and then put into a poor light. Once again if you know a server is Christian and you go in swearing why would you consider it inappropriate to be kicked?
4. I personally go into a server, mature rated game or not to play the game, not have juveniles swearing and calling people derogatory names constantly over Team Speak or such. I am simply there to play, have fun and play fair; not be swore at over and over again.
There is my take on it.
EDIT: punctuation, wording

Ahh Fox news, such paragons of journalistic integrity.

Yeah, 20 seconds of sex (that you might not even see depending on various decisions earlier in the game) in a 20-hour game... I wonder how many bought it "because it's full of porn".

1. game servers shouldn't need rules like that, it's a stupid game, if you get that pissed off about it, go shoot yourself in the head.
2. I don't join those servers, or if I do, I quickly leave, even if I have no intent on swearing, I just wanted to talk about it, because I think it's stupid.
3. I didn't assume anything was christian, also, I really don't think a F.E.A.R 2 or Postal 2 server that doesn't allow swearing could really be christian.
4. Like I said before, if someone is spamming the swearing and being a poor sportsman in general, I usually just leave. There are usually plenty of other servers.
there is my response on it.

I would have bought it a lot sooner if it was.

it was all her books, but the news spoke mostly about her newer one (to try to drive sales maybe?).
I'm an admin in a Danish gaming community. We meet online every 6 days on our own server, and blow each other's brains out in various FPS games. We use TeamSpeak when we play. We have an average age around 30 years. Most of us are married with children. And we swear and curse at each other. A lot.
Of course, it helps that we're all friends, and that most of us know each other in real life one way or another. Also, it's probably a cultural thing. Danes are much less uptight about stuff like swearing. As it is, if one of my buddies is lining up a shot with an Ion Painter (UT2004), and I headshot him with a sniper rifle and steal his weapon, I'd be slightly disappointed if I wasn't immediately accused of performing sexual acts on goats in my spare time, or something equally offensive. Or alternatively, congratulated on an extremely well placed shot. It varies.
My point is, sometimes it's all part of the game. The more violent the game, the more likely it is. It's all in good fun, and we're all equally good friends nevertheless.
Still, there's a difference between being cursed at by a friend and being cursed at by a complete stranger, but more of a difference, I think, in how the curse is spoken. As long as I can tell that the other person is cursing in a "good-natured way", I don't mind a bit.
The way teens are with trying to string together what they think is hard hitting insults when it just turns out to be obscene crap, need protection from making fools out of themselves ;)
Also its just plain inferior communication.

Well, that's your view. I say it all depends on the situation. If one of my buddies headshots me from a mile away, while I'm driving a buggy at 100mph, the best way of conferring to him my emotions at that point is not: "I say, friend. What a superb feat of accuracy and timing you just performed there. Congratulations on having honed your skills to such fine a point. Well done". It's more along the lines of: "Goddammit, that hurt! And that was my best shirt too, motherfucker!" And I know he'll take it as a compliment ;-)
