They are like on version one million and yet not one single Chessmaster game? Inquiring mind wants to know what up with that???????

The tutorials in chessmaster are one of the best I've seen. So even if you can't beat battle chess, it's better. Also the animation in battle chess tends to get tiring after a while :)

Anyone here besides myself totally suck and chess and yet still play it. I've yet to ever beat a single opponent computer or non and I've been playing for 30 years. :-D

That would be me. I get totally owned by my little brother. He was something of a master when he was a kid so it was okay then. But now he is just about a roaring alcoholic and can still easily kick my A$$. Oh well, I can still win the fist fight afterwards . . . . . . .

The gog version of chessmaster got removed by ubi lately. And yes, it is sad. And yes, chessmaster is good. And yes its tutorials and "academies" are great. And yes past the animation novelty, battlechess is unplayable (except on limited 2D mode). And yes there is a huge shortage of chess games on gog, starting with the absence of hoyle's majestic chess. And yes, you should nag and vote.

Sorry to be a hog here but since we are on the subject, how is Battle Chess? I've always been quasi-interested in it because I might actually dig a stupid gimmick like that, but how is the gameplay itself?

ERRR I meant Combat Chess, and I didn't realize there were two of them.

Play on MS Chess (win 7) at level 1. You'll beat it eventually.

Also, look up some opening moves. Usually, the first 3 to 5 moves will determine a lot in a game of chess. And if you don't know what the heck you're doing, you'll just set yourself up.

And do your best to maintain control of the middle of the board.

With those tips, I went from unwinnable to win-every-now-and-thenable. :)

hah it thought we had chessmaster: seems my memory served me right. It's a shame these things seem to happen more with gog then with other sites. What's up with that? (or am I wrong??)

Chess master is indeed awesome, it's a shame that it had to be pulled. Hopefully they won't bring back the one we had, but will bring back a newer version that has even better AI and lessons. I'd probably even plunk down cash for it.
We had Chessmaster, I bought it here, but it got yanked. Which was a shame.

Chessmaster got removed because Ubisoft lost a license for chess engine so they can't sell it anymore. So I've heard.
