eyeball226: Well, if you knock the things that were bundled with something else off the list, the top 4 are:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (21.94 million)
Wii Fit Plus (18.49 million)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (9.48 million)
Super Mario Galaxy (8.84 million)

Three of those are great games, and I'm insulted that you deem me not a 'proper' gamer for enjoying them.
Ditto. Anybody who refuses to play Super Mario Galaxy because it looks kiddy is not a real gamer in my book.

Some of you might be missing the point here, and maybe I didn't clarify it though I thought I had. I said they didn't understand the MAJORITY. Key word. I did NOT say ALL gamers.

If you enjoy these games, that's fine. But Nintendo has two demographics they like to focus on: The hardcore Nintendo followers that grew up with their brands (Such as myself) and kids. That's it. They had no interest in getting a killer app made by a 3rd party for their system, you had to go to Sony and MS for that.

The sales figures show the demographic that is targeted and buying games.

You're really missing out if you brush Smash Bros. and Mario Galaxy aside so easily... you don't have to be a hardcore Nintendo fan or a child to enjoy either. I understand your point though, they are the target market.

I don't brush them aside! Well, Mario I do because I don't like Mario games (My wife does and she doesn't want anything to do with Galaxy though) but I do like Smash Bros, but I haven't gotten it because it's always so expensive and there's usually a better game I want.

Seriously though, if you want a good example what I'm talking about, look at E3 presentations, because that tells you the entire focus a company has. This has been the first year in a long time I can remember that Nintendo actually acknowledged EVERY gamer, not just one type.

What you're missing is the majority of gamers are playing Nintendo.

Playing and owning are two entirely different things. There's no arguing with you about this anymore because any evidence I use you are just going to throw back in my face as irrelevant.

I'll continue enjoying my diverse set of games for PS3 and PC that I play all the time compared to my Wii that sits unused until me or my wife want to weigh ourselves.

Also, I would like to point out that saying the Wii has the majority of gamers compared to the PS3 and 360 is like saying Apple has the majority compared to Nintendo and Sony in terms of portable gaming.

You know, I wouldn't mind mobile gaming to steamroll both console and PC gaming. It would be the ultimate trolling.

It already has.

But it was Nintendo who did it.

Wraith: The hate is because Nintendo is showing a pattern of offering gimmicks and not understanding the majority of gamers.
avatar
nondeplumage: They've sold to more gamers than damn near all other consoles combined.
They have sold more shovelware you mean.

Your argument is basically that Facebook is better than everything because people play farmville on it in numbers higher than the internet can count.

I have every system since the NES(i sold other ones because i was a poor college kid once). The Wii is the only one i regret purchasing.

I was talking about cellphones and tablets. Apple vs Google vs Blackberry has got to be more interesting than Nintendo vs Microsoft vs Sony vs whatever's on PC.

The XBox 360 and PS3 both took PowerPC technology and gutted a significant fraction of the performance add features to save die space, which combined with RAM limitations is why the performance of both is vastly inferior to a PC with the GPU their custom GPUs were based on.

Like the Wii Nintendo is pretty much guaranteed to keep those important performance add features with it's freshly commissioned 45nm SOI Power-based multi-core CPU with significant on die eDRAM, and custom Radeon HD GPU that "reflects the best characteristics of AMD’s graphics technology solutions."

Anyone believing the Wii U doesn't completely outclass first generation DirectX 9.0c 90nm technology and several generations old CPUs that were lobotmized, has not been paying attention.

If the demoed Wii gun prop+Wii controller+Wii U controller gun assembly works as advertized that should create a very solid ergonomically sound FPS controller, verse trying to force a platformer optimized gamepad to do something it was never designed right to do. The resistive screen should help enable RTS, which a platformer optimized gamepad is utterly unsuited for. Their demo indicating switching over the screen, multiple views, and other options as a second screen open up a lot of possibilities.

They've made the point that it's backward compatible with the platformer optimized Classic controller, motion focussed Wii controllers, exercise focussed accessories, and other associated paraphernalia. Add that there has been a Kinetic equivalent developed for the Wii, which will likely be compatible, and this will be simply the most flexible and powerful proprietary gaming system on the market with no indication Microsoft or Sony have any intent to make a new home console anytime soon.
Well I think that the new Wii u is going to do very well and while the other companies spent a ton of money copying the Wii "Ps3 Move, Kennect", Nintendo went out and designed something that was more powerful then the systems before and a very interesting controller that I can see really doing well. I am hoping RTS's I thought that the wii would of been perfect for that "Oh weight I played a lot of Warcraft 1 on mine and worked out really well" It's just a shame no actual RTS's were made :(. One thing to note that just because the power in there to use in a console it doesn't mean that the developer is going to use the console to it's full power. Anyway I am scattered brained now so have a nice day:)
Necro.

Read this.

Now I understand why Nintendo is going to still have a 500ish price point for there new console, but its all going into the new "Controller" at a lost to functionality for DVD's even though I agree that people do have 15 different ways to play DVD's/Blue Ray. its still a lost.

Interesting read though.
