I don't particularly want Nintendo's IPs to get auctioned off ala THQ, but I don't see a problem with multiplatform Nintendo games, that would be a good thing, imo, especially since I'm not interested in enough of them to justify the purchase of a WiiU (or even re-buy the Wii, I'd seriously be doing that for one game). It would give Nintendo more revenue, I suspect, and then they wouldn't be burdened by implementation details that they seem to get 100% wrong almost every time (such as, "Is it a good idea to tie this online purchase to hardware?" or "How should we implement online co-op?").
What could this possibly be based on other than comfort in what you're used to? A Zelda game on an XBox 360 isn't suddenly going to look at play like Darksiders and if you think they'll sell out their own franchises, they haven't exactly restrained themselves even on their own hardware (just see Pokemon as an example).

Rather the first option but if Nintendo go, we'd see one of the best first party devs gone...
May seem good but Nintendo knew how to get the best out of their systems for their games, but as sega proved when they went third party, it isn't as good as it seems, they made less games than when they were first party due to less €€€ and they don't have to have exclusive mania to sell their consoles...

Zelda made by Bethesda........I am mixed on that.
Pikmin, F-Zero, Mario, Pokemon, etc. I do not know where they would go to :\
Anyway Nintendo is pretty good at keeping the classics popular while Sega just do re-releases every now and then.

Oh no, that would be the worst thing to ever happen in the games industry. Nintendo is the only big company that still brings creativity into all their games.
Just the thought of getting a new "Zelda: Hyrule Warfare" every year makes me sick.
Oh no, no backwards flying dragons, please.
Seriously, only Nintendo knows what to do with their franchises. Other companies would probably milk these franchises to death.

Really? Capcom developed Zelda Oracle of Ages, Seasons, and The Minish Cap, and they were fantastic. Super Mario RPG was developed by Square and it was great. Lets not forget the Mario & Luigi RPGs by AlphaDream. I'd say giving the franchises to the right developers would yield good results in their quality, while there's always the chance of a bad game getting made (Other M) it's kind of foolish to think a Nintendo game would automatically be bad under another developer (considering that Nintendo had other developers work on their franchises).

If Capcom had the rights to develop a Zelda game without any restrictions today, oh boy, God knows what could happen. "Zelda Super Motherfucking Arcade 2025 Edition with Lasers", and in order to have Link as playable character you would have to buy a DLC.
There can be good games by other developers, even Other M was pretty decent, not great by any means, but not a bad game either. However, there has to be some sort of control from Nintendo. The examples that we have of games that use Nintendo's franchises wihout any sort of influence from Nintendo are pretty fucking bad: Hotel Mario and the 3 Zelda games for CD-i.

Nintendo making games without their own platform doesn't have to be the end of good Nintendo games (I'd argue a lot of them aren't terribly good right now, but that's just me). Without the huge cap ex they had to recoup from hardware development they could focus on what they seem to be a bit better at.

I read the other day that at the current rate of losing money, Nintendo can go for 20-30 years (I think) before they are in danger of bankruptcy. So they aren't going anywhere. Several of Nintendo's top people also said they will take their IP to the grave rather than sell it off. So unless there is a take over attempt or whatnot from the shareholders, Mario won't be showing up legally on an iPad any time soon. I think most of the stock is still owned by the former president of the company, so the chances of that happening are slim also.
Regarding the Wii U, I think at this point the system is a disaster and Nintendo is going to have to pull off an even bigger feat to turn it around than they did the 3DS. If they do a big price drop they will be losing even more than they currently are on the console, plus they will piss off early adopters that paid full price for the thing. They made a bet on an expensive controller and the consumer demand isn't there for it. That also ends up being a big barrier to reducing costs in the future, hurting price drops.
3rd parties are an unknown at this point. Activision isn't too thrilled with Black Ops 2's sales, so they might be questionable for future support. EA seems to be an unknown at this point too. Talk came out today that a Crysis 3 port was well along in development until EA said they wouldn't let it be released and it got canceled.
Unless they pull off something, and fast, the Wii U will end up selling less world wide than the Gamecube did. (21 million) If it does I can see Nintendo going hand-held only in the future. 4 more years would be a good amount of time to ride out the 3ds while letting the Wii U fade away and release a new portable with TV out.
