Cambrey: Ah. I was wondering if you could upload a game into your handheld, but apparently not, you need the Wii, no matter what.
The controller is just a controller*. The processing is done in the console no matter how you're viewing the picture.

*admittedly it's a controller with a screen, but it's definitely not a handheld.

Yup. That is exactly what is happening.

For me, my handhelds do not leave my home so the Wii U presents a delightful possibility of playing games while not being strapped on the TV. The gamepad is not the console. The console streams to the gamepad.

Well, the fact that you can potentially play a game for hours, ineluctably makes it a handheld.

Well, any controller are handheld anyway, right ? :o

Handheld generally means more than "you can hold it in your hand", it generally signifies portability, which the WiiU tablet is not.

It's a handheld controller, but not a handheld system.

Well if you must think of it as a handheld, think of it as a streaming based handheld that requires constant wireless connection to a specific device to work. Think about it like an onlive based handheld, except instead of connecting to their servers over wifi you must connect to your WiiU.

It's really not a handheld console though, there's no console in it. :P

But if they could stream the consoles video through wireless internet, it could be possible to play the Wii-U from miles away if they had the tech. Is that kind of thing possible?

Nintendo being arrogant Pricks like they always are:

Tough talk, reggie but we will see what happens next year when the actual next gen consoles come out

I would imagine that would be quite laggy. It would work like OnLive, which was (apparently) laggy enough.

I guess it's still great to use around the house. When i had my psp, it never really travelled that far with it. I guess a hybrid portable system would be perfect for some.

Is there a headphone/earphone attachment to the controller?

Ok that makes sense to me now. Not a handheld system indeed.

Well, there is a precedent... Playstation Move and Kinect suddenly appeared, and the PS3 controller gained all the Sixaxis gubbins very shortly after the revelation of the Wii remote.

There's also another "precedent" of the fact that Sony was working on motion technology far before the wii was even released and the "precedent" of the fact that the MOVE is the best and most precise motion controller this generation

Well they announced it 8 months after the Wii remote was revealed and apparently developers only received a working Sixaxis 10 days before that E3. Doesn't sound like Sony had been working on it for that long.

Also, I thought Kinect was better.
