Uhh N0x0ss free me from my ignorance when I saw this:

What are you doing in Jarvis Island? I never heard of that island until now and read it was uninhabited?
Forget the bricking issue, why is Nintendo releasing a whopping 5GB patch on day one?

I quote from a commenter from Joystiq:

"5GB is the Wii U OS as a whole, including the update. As previously noted by another commenter, the update is around 700MB. After all, it is a pretty sizable update, containing all of the previously announced features except TVii and a couple video services.

The Joystiq post was updated to omit the incorrect statement."

The math was failing me for a while with how 8GB units were going to handle it with a good chunk already being used before the update.

Good old n64 plug and play. Hell, maybe I should buy a Neo Geo X instead. It even comes with a game on a flash card.

Yesterday was a quiet launch around here. I could have easily bought a Wii U deluxe around lunchtime yesterday. 93 units available at lunchtime on launch day surprised the crap out of me.
So, for those that have gotten it.
Whats the spec on that thing?
really intrested to know if the processor is better or about the same as Ps3 or xbox360.

PhoenixWright: The only issue I see with the launch is that there are a ton of people trying to access Nintendo's online services at the same time, slowing everything down. Ninja Gaiden 3 is awesome, ZombiU is meh, Mario is exactly what you'd expect. I wouldn't call the launch a failure at all. Although I guess the Gamecube launch titles were better.
Okay, coming over to your house to try it out then!

Neo Geo X is looking very cool. The only thing keeping me from getting one ATM is I want to see their plans for future releases, prices for those, etc...

Haha, you are free to do that! Although to be clear I wouldn't call it amazing, in general, just not a failure.
Maybe US folks can help me out: I have some USB headset I'd love to use with WiiU. Can you plug them in a USB port on the console itself? I know this thing has four USB ports but I can't find out if USB headset are supposed to work or not. Pretty uninformative Ninty if you ask me. =P
So about a year and a half ago I said I had some excitement for it .I was planning on getting it relatively soon after launch, but that was mainly for the wii backwards compatibillity. I really just wanted to play the main Mario games and some stuff like the Donkey Kong Country remake

Anyways, last night I ended up just buyiing a wii and Super Mario Galaxy in a Black Friday sale, so I think it will be awhile before I buy the Wii U, since the Wii will give me my Mario fix.

On an unimportant side note, man is it awesome playing a console Mario game again like Super Mario Galaxy. Last one I played was Thousand Year Door in 2004 and that wasn't even considered a " true" Mario game. ( though it was awesome)

Try not to be too disappointed in Super Mario Galaxy 2:)

This right here, though, is what Nintendo courted by catering primarily to "casuals" (not that you are, I'm talking in general), I know several people who bought Wiis, not WiiUs, on Black Friday. The stores all had fantastic Wii bundles.

So I don't know the demographic breakdown exactly of who's been buying the WiiU, but I strongly suspect they'd fall primarily into the hardcore gamer demographic.

Long-time nintendo fans & the newly aquired audience of the wii & Ds.
So basically just a small part of the hardcore gamers.

The DS, specifically the DS Lite, was really the highlight of Nintendo's efforts last decade. I wish they'd get whoever steered that one back at the helm...

Someone who understood social gaming would dramatically improve their online game play.

And finally, they gotta quit being dicks to 3rd party devs. When you refuse to pay indies that don't make arbitrary sales numbers then you won't have any of those breakout indies on your platform.
