gambit_006: Amazon have it on listed at 249.99 for the basic package. ;(
They'll do exactly what they did with the 3DS, drop the price massively when they find out how much it costs them to stock. The 3DS was £220 when announced and about £185 at launch.
I probably won't be able to buy it at launch but there are a few games I want so I plan to get one.

SirPrimalform: Hmm, there are no games that have convinced me yet. I'll doubtless get one at some point, for Zelda.

xxxIndyxxx: backwards compatibility: i assumed that would be perfect since wii played all gamecube games, so i thought well: wii u will play (hopefully gamecube and )wii games. Reggi said it will play most wii games. So no mention of gamecube and the word most worries me because most can mean a lot in PR...

SirPrimalform: It's a given that it won't play GC games. Later regular Wiis can't play GC games, just as later DSs couldn't play GBA games. This is to the Wii what the 3DS is to the DS, they're not suddenly going to bring back Gamecube support, just as they didn't suddenly bring back GBA support.
Wow, I did not know that...
I had a wii since day 1 and it still works so i never bought an other one, but i didn't know that newer ones didn't play gamecube games, that's just stupid...
I will definitely but it at day 1 since i'm a huge Nintendo fan. I'm quite interested in NSMB Wii U and ZombiU. And since i don't have Mass Effect 3 yet, i might buy the Special Edition for Wii U since it comes with more goodies.

I agree, it's fairly stupid. They call it Wii Family edition, but the actual console looks almost exactly the same. The only change is that there are no hatches for GC controllers and memory cards any more.

ShogunDarius: price is the real killer in the uk tbh
avatar
SirPrimalform: They haven't given one in the UK yet. It's currently speculation isn't it?
. Stores set their own and its becoming dear, 250 for basic 290 - 300 for premium
i'll guess i will wait for the inevitable price drop after 6 months or so.
I love Nintendo and despite being a Nintendo fan, due to how badly the economy is in Portugal I won't be able to buy it for £250! Amazon.co.uk lists the premium pack at £299.00... It's just too much... I love the concept and would love to get into it but that price is too much for now...

As I said, it's exactly what happened with the 3DS and it had dropped massively by the time of release.

There will have been a price drop by launch, the price you're seeing isn't an official price it's just the shops being greedy.

WiiU will be region locked

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-24-nintendo-uk-confirms-the-wii-u-will-be-region-locked

Nintendo's confirmation followed a translated revelation in Japanese magazine Famitsu: "What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played."

Nice to see that Nintendo is still in 2001

I can consider myself lucky that at least Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is being sold in the west and that most of those japanese only games don't appeal to me.

Too bad for Phoenix Wright fans :(

honsetly why is that game praised so much?

I'm pretty interested in ZombiU, but I'm not completely convinced the controller won't go flying out a window while I'm trying to bash a zombie's head in. I didn't see a wrist-strap for it, and even if there is one, it's a big controller and I'm afraid it can still do some damage if it accidentally slips out of my grasp, especially while playing such an intense looking game.

I don't speak Japanese, so a Japanese copy of PW would be no good to me anyway.

Capcom won't be localizing the new Phoenix Wright for the 3DS? =(
I hope they change their minds. PW has lots of fans and they even released the old games on Iphone and there was supposed to be Android versions eventually.

No, it's coming out in the US at least: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/05/ace-attorney-5-coming-to-us-and-europe/

I'm not really sure why Elmofongo was using PW as an example at all really.

1. It's coming out in English.
2. A Japanese copy is no good to anyone who can't read Japanese.

Hmm, it would suck if it came out in the US but not in Europe. Maybe that's what he's talking about?
